By Matthew Elliott Approved proposals to widen the access route to Alicante airport will see €29.3 million pumped into impassioned plans to temper one of the nation’s deadliest ro ad s a n d en h a n ce Alicante’s formidable reputatio n as th e h e a rt o f t he ‘Mediterranean corridor.’ T h e b o ld ca mp aig n ha s now officially been given
the go-ahead by the Ministry of Public Works and will see 4.75 kilometres of road overhauled. A crucial part of the N338 will double in width to promote traffic control and completely eradicate a notoriously dangerous stretch of road that has been the tragic site of numerous devastating crashes. As the road is the critical access point to the airport
the news will be well received by the wider community which has reaped the rewards of Alicante’s re s tora tion a s a c ritic a l Mediterranean transport hub. Alicante-Elche airport is now the fifth la rge s t in Spain and has surpassed the 10 million mark for annual passengers as its local and global reputation continues to shine.
