Spain and UK unite in remembrance DIGNITARIES from both countries laid wreaths By Gemma Quinn ‘They shall not grow old as we that are left grow old; Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember them.’ And remember them we did as Remembrance Services were held across the Costa Blanca. An act of Remembrance in English and Spanish was held in San Fulgencio by the Gran Alacant and La Marina branch of the Royal British Legion (RBL). As prayers were said asking for ‘gifts of wisdom and resolve in the search for reconciliation and peace’, the two nations came together to remember all those who have served their countries both in past wars and current conflicts. Local Police and Guardia Civil chiefs were present along with Mayor Carlos Ramirez, who led the wreath-laying with Branch Treasurer Brian Hunt laying the wreath for the RBL. Chairman Robin Hargrave
said the branch was in need of more members and an open day was held in Urbanisation La Marina in the presence of the British Vice-Consul Lloyd Milen, offering more information about the local branches, welfare and legion initiatives.
Orihuela Councillor Sofia Alvarez (pictured) also took part in Remembrance Sunday in Mil Palmeras; the eighth year a service has been held on the Orihuela Costa. Vice-Consul Lloyd Milen laid a poppy garland on behalf
of the British Government. Torrevieja also held its annual Remembrance Day service yesterday (Wednesday) at the La Siesta Church. For more information on the work of the RBL, visit www.britishlegion.org.uk
