Skies turn pink for breast cancer WORLD Breast Cancer Day marked across the region By Gemma Quinn Breast Cancer Awareness Day has been marked and honoured across the region with thousands showing their support by undertaking solidarity walks, balloon releases or simply remembering loved ones lost to the disease. One of the main events took place at La Zenia Boulevard shopping centre with Maria Wilson, President of the Orihuela Costa branch of the AECC cancer charity, and her ‘Pink Ladies’, who were out in force helping to raise awareness and funds for the charity. People bought balloons and attached written messages to them, to honour and remember all those who have lost their lives to the disease and support those still fighting it. As the sun began to set, around 2,000 pink helium-filled balloons were released into the early evening sky as Kylie Burgazzi sang her version of Nessum Dorma. The event also saw a host of local acts give up their time to entertain the crowds. Passing shoppers and Maria thanked all the performers as well as Simon Morton Turn to Page 5
