Prime Minister pops into Axarquia

MARIANO RAJOY said it held ‘extraordinary importance’ for tourism and commerce The last stretch of the A-7 motorway located in CarchunaCalahonda (Costa Tropical) was inaugurated by Spain’s Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy on Wednesday, October 7. This recently completed part of the road is the last to be inaugurated, a 250-metre section which connects Carchuan with Gualchos-Castell de Ferro (also in the region of Costa Tropical).

Prime Minister Rajoy said it had been one of the most complex construction projects ever undertaken in the last decades and that it held ‘extraordinary importance’ as he stressed the ‘huge impact’ that this new infrastructure would have on the area’s commerce and tourism. The A-7 now connects Almeria and Malaga, passing through the Costa Tropical, and represents an improve-

ment both from an economic perspective and the wellbeing of the people. Together with Development Minister Ana Pastor and other government representatives, he said that during his term in office, more than 47 kilometres of the road had been made operational. “It is an historical day for Malaga, Granada and Almeria and the whole of Spain as the

A-7 links the whole Mediterranean coastal area and is a unique piece of engineering,” said a representative from Congress. Maintenance workers made sure the area was pristine for motorists and the road was officially opened to traffic after 6pm on the same day. The new road is expected to alleviate traffic on the N-340 as it is used daily by 13,502

vehicle on average. The total budget for the whole road - 47.3 kilometres was €1 billion.
