Torrevieja Mayor pledges turn around
INE defends its report that Torrevieja is Spain’s poorest city per capita The Director of the National Statistics Institute (INE) has respon d e d t o c o m p l ain ts from Torrevieja about the city being named the poorest in Spain, with the lowest per capita income in towns of over 20,000 inhabitants. Dolon sent an official letter to the INE questioning how their data came to the conclusion that Torrevieja was the poorest. He claimed that the INE had not quantified the city’s total housing within the income study.
The INE defended the data a nd me thodology us e d and said the study results were valid. It clarified that the data re la te d to 2012 a nd the number of inhabited homes was specified at around 43,000, a figure provided by
