30,000 homes caught by helicopter spycam By Eleanor Hawkins HELICOPTER inspections by the taxman have caught out 30,113 homes on the Costa del Sol not correctly registered, in just one year. A total of 486,000 homes in 29 Malaga Province towns including Fuengirola, Benalmadena, Mijas, Antequera, Alhaurin de la Torre, Cartama and Alhaurin el Grande have

been inspected so far, and Hacienda (the Spanish Treasury Ministry) believes the more than 30,000 are just one third of those it will track down during the inspection campaign. While councils rub their hands at the extra income, an estimated €21.7 million in IBI property taxes, homeowners who had not correctly registered new buildings, extensions,

swimming pools or other work at the Catastro property registry could well be in for a shock when they receive their property tax bills as an average increase of €215 can be expected along with charges for the difference for up to four years. Hacienda is also charging those affected €60 to cover the costs of its inspections and correct registration.
