€25m for much-needed school improvements By Gemma Quinn AN investment of €25 million has been promised to improve five schools across the Vega Baja. Regional Secretary for Education, Manuel Tomas, visited Orihuela and Torrevieja to deliver the news. He said: “This is aimed at providing quality facilities to all Valencian municipalities where temporary facilities currently exist or it is necessary to increase capacity.” Tomas said the Ministry of Education was

working hard to finalise the necessary paperwork. The new classrooms being built are part of a regional government plan to replace 75 per cent of the temporary classrooms still in use in Valencia. One of the schools to benefit will be CEIP Playas de Orihuela, which will not only get six classrooms for early infant and primary

education, but also a new cafeteria at a cost of more than €7 million. In Torrevieja, 24 classrooms and a new canteen will be added at the CEIP Amanecer school. More than €5 million is budgeted for more classrooms and a dining room at Guardamar’s CEIP Dama de Guardamar. San Fulgencio will see eight new

secondary education units and a new dining room built for €4.2 million. The long-awaited Principe de España school in Rojales will finally see construction improve the conditions at the centre as €4.17 million is being allocated for 18 new units for primary education and a cafeteria, after years of protests by parents.
