Cycling first as Tour of Spain rides into town TORREVIEJA is to host a stage of La Vuelta de Espa単a (Tour of Spain) cycle race for the first time in the history of the 80-year-old event. The town has received passage of cyclists in the Tour of Spain on numerous occasions but until now it has never been designated to host a departure or arrival. This year, however, it will start off the ninth stage of the race on August 30, with cyclists making the 168.3kilometre journey to Cumbre del Sol in Benitachell. 2015 in Torremolinos, Malaga. The Tour of Spain runs from August 22 to September 13.
Serving tourists and expatriates MORE than 50,000 people visited the tourist office in Torrevieja last year, with 58.69 per cent of them international tourists. The information point at Playa del Cura, which was only open during the summer months, received more than 5,700 visitors. Scandinavian tourists
were the main users (8,986) followed by British (7,377). National visitors using the tourist office were mainly from Madrid (4,758) followed by the Basque Country and Castilla y Leon. Foreigners have also received help and advice in Orihuela and along the Orihuela Costa with the AMIC office
seeing 544 expatriates in 2014 looking for information and guidance on regularising their situation in Spain. For the first time since its inception, the office served more foreign residents than ever before - 61.6 per cent - with people from 46 nationalities receiving assistance.
