Alicante welcomes the new British Consul ALICANTE welcomed a new British Consul this week, with the appointment of SarahJane Morris. Mrs Morris is pictured with outgoing consul Paul Rodwell, who moves to a new role within the Foreign Office. She will be responsible for one of the busiest British Consulates in the world, with the Alicante office supporting more than two million visitors to the region each year,

Public’s help sought A MANHUNT is under way for a suspect wanted for questioning in connection with the torture and murder of a Briton in Spain. The UK’s National Crime Agency (NCA) is appealing to the public to help find Paul John Scott, aged 32, from Liverpool, who is also wanted for questioning in connection with a plot to import 40 tons of cocaine from South America hidden inside tins of fish and wooden pallets. The Guardia Civil in Spain want to talk to Scott about the murder of Francis Brennan in Alicante earlier this year. His

body was found taped up in a bin bag washed up on an Alicante beach in April. He had a head injury and other injuries that appeared to have been inflicted by a knife, and gunshot wounds. The 25-yearold had been kidnapped by men wearing Spanish police uniforms in January. Scott has links to Spain, the Netherlands, Belgium and France. If you know of Scott’s whereabouts police are asking you to contact the NCA or Crimestoppers anonymously on 900 555 111. Calls will be answered in the UK by Crimestoppers’ agents.

Mrs Morris will manage Alicante in addition to the Consulate-General in Madrid, where she has served as Consul for Central and Northern Spain for the last two years. “I am proud to have the opportunity to oversee the excellent work of the Alicante team, so ably led by Vice-Consul Lloyd Milen,” said Mrs Morris. “And I am looking forward to seeing what more can be done to improve yet further the service offered to British nationals.” Her job will be to focus on strategic issues, including new ways of preventing and tackling the most common problems that face British people abroad. The local teams at the Consulate – led by experienced vice-consuls – will continue to head the frontline delivery of consular assistance to Britons in distress.
