Remembering the Fallen RAIN accompanied the solemn mood of this year’s Remembrance Day service at La Siesta church. Silence befell the congregation at the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month, to remember all those who lost their lives in the two World Wars and in every conflict since. The service was attended by Mayor of Torrevieja, Eduardo Dolon, who emphasised the solemnity of an act of enormous importance to the British community based in Torrevieja, which he praised as an example of integration into the city.

Following the service, Armed Forces personnel, official delegates and

councillors from Torrevieja Town Hall and members of the public were invited to lay a wreath or poppy in the Garden of Remembrance. Each year hundreds

attend the service, organised by veterans of the Royal British Legion and the Armed Forces, and this year marked the centenary of the beginning of the First World War.

Lifeline for drivers

LIFE could become easier for people caught in Torrevieja’s notorious traffic system as plans to integrate the port and city have been unveiled. Central to the scheme is a fourlane motorway linking the port with the city centre to reduce traffic delays. The Special Plan for Torrevieja, with construction due to start in

2015, will also include a 20-metrewide promenade or pedestrian walkway along the length of the docks, as well as a strip of land of ‘reduced density’ earmarked for leisure use and services. In another concession to traffic, the plan includes the creation of an underground car park with 600 spaces.

However, the scheme is still in its early stages. After completing the initial planning processes, the council’s Department of Infrastructure, Planning and Environment will make the plans available for public scrutiny in the spring of 2015, before concessions for the works are put out to tender.
