Benidorm welcomes first ever cruise ship BENIDORM has welcomed the arrival of the first cruise ship to the town. The MS Amadea, German-owned by Phoenix Reisen, anchored off Benidorm after arriving from Almeria, on Monday October 13 at around 6.30am with close to 1,000 tourists on board, most of them German. From 8am around 500 passengers were shipped to shore on seven boats. About 280 of them toured different parts of the province including

Alicante, Guadalest and Altea, with the rest spending the morning in Benidorm. Benidorm Mayor Agustin Navarro and Tourism Councillor Gema Amor greeted the ship and organised a welcome breakfast in the harbour, hosting a reception at the City Hall for Alen Vugrin, the second-incommand who is responsible for security on MS Amadea. Mayor Navarro said the ship’s arrival was important to the town

“because it means opening the door to a new tourism; the cruisers, which complements what we already have.” Benidorm made a great first impression on the visitors. “It is a very beautiful place. I really liked the beaches with the skyline behind and, especially, the smile with which we were welcomed,” said Vugrin, who added that Benidorm could have a good future as a destination for cruise ships.

Allergy prevention in Costa hotels AFTER December, hotels and restaurants must provide clients with full details about the food they are served. European Union

regulations will require them to state which dishes contain products that are recognised as likely to worsen intolerances or produce allergic reactions.

Spain will be delaying the introduction of the Brussels’ measures by up to six months while the government prepares the new regulations.

Meanwhile, members of Costa Blanca hoteliers’ association Hosbec are already instructing staff on labelling and using allergenic foodstuffs.
