Cabo de Gata is Spain’s third natural wonder CABO DE GATA has this week been announced as one of Spain’s seven natural wonders coming third in a competition on www.7maravillas.es. Cabo de Gata is one of the most popular natural parks in Spain, visited by many people every day. Allianz Global Assistance ran a competition this year to find the most beautiful areas in the country.
Everything was considered, from the calm waters of the Valencian Albufera to the rush of Rio Tinto, the volcanic splendour of Lanzarote’s Parque de Timanfaya and the majesty of Mount Teide in Tenerife. Rivers, beaches, caves, marshes... all manner of landscapes were examined before a shortlist of 20
locations was selected. The finalist areas were all visited by explorer Mar Morales, photographer Elssie Ansareo, community manager at Allianz Global Assistance Alberto Peñalba and photographer Javer Gil. The seven eventual winners were chosen according to their popularity on social networking websites, with around 80,000
Facebook likes and 5,000 Tweets. Aside from Cabo de Gata, the other winners were Gaztelugatxe in Bizkaia, which took first place; Parque Natural de Somiedo in Asturias, in second place; Las Medulas in Leon; Parque Natural de Las Lagunas de Ruidera in Castilla-La Mancha; Fuente Dé in Cantabria, and A Praia das Catedrais in Lugo.
