La Herradura’s new health centre soon to open its doors CONSTRUCTION of the new La Herradura Health Centre is to finish by the end of the month. Mayor Trinidad Herrera visited the construction site with Deputy Mayor Juan Jose Ruiz Joya and said the new health centre fulfilled an electoral promise made by the People’s Party (PP). Built with a €200,000 budget, the 400-square-metre centre includes a paediatrics service, an infirmary and two doctors’ offices, among other facilities.

The construction project also includes repairing the skylights

and building an access ramp to the post office.

It is expected to improve health services in La Herradura, said Mayor Herrera and Deputy Mayor Joya, and will be named after Francisco de Haro Caballero, a beloved local resident who would provide his neighbours with medical care at a time when there was no health centre in the area and even assist women in childbirth. “We wanted to pay off the historical debt we owed to such a respected neighbour,” said Deputy Mayor Joya.

Ancient find at Salobreña Castle ARCHAEOLOGISTS at Salobreña Castle have unearthed archaeological remains dating back to the 13th and 17th centuries. Built during the Nasrid dynasty, which ruled the Emirate of Granada between 1232 and 1492, the castle is to undergo a restoration and a series of repairs aimed at preserving the most important and beautiful monument in Salobreña for future generations.

The archaeological remains were reportedly found during one of the preliminary surveys conducted on site before the repair project can be carried out. “During one of the surveys we discovered this massive wall which could date back to the first settlements built on the castle grounds in medieval times,” said some of the archaeologists in charge of the project when speaking to Salobreña Mayor

Gonzalo Fernandez Pulido and Granada Tourism Councillor Manuel Morales. Some of the repairs include fixing the cracks affecting one of the castle walls as well as strengthening the structure of one of the towers. The restoration project is being made possible thanks to an investment of €1 million made by Salobreña Council and the Regional Government.
