Fears for live music BARS and clubs which feature live music are being targeted by work inspectors from the Social Security Department. With swingeing fines of theoretically up to ₏180,000 in the offing if musicians are found playing who are not in the Social Security system, there are fears that with the summer season coming, musical entertainment will become a rarity. The Provincial Work and Social Security Department is reportedly cracking down on venues offering live music in Malaga Province. Venues are being warned that inspectors could visit at any time including weekends, holidays and in the early hours, often accompanied by the police.
According to a report in a local Spanish daily, the Ministry of Work is demanding that establishents legalise the situation of musicians who perform in them.
They can either hire them on the general regime, which means paying ₏20 in Social Security per musician and per performance, or Turn to Page 4
