Parking scam solution GANDIA Town Hall is to introduce permits allowing public administration and town hall employees to park in ‘loading and unloading’ bays. The current document is too easily forged, sources have said.
Not here A GAS pipeline will endanger vines and olive groves and destroy irrigation channels, said growers in Monovar, Elche and Algueña. They have asked the regional government to consider a different route.
Finishing off BAD bank Sareb which absorbed nationalised banks’ toxic assets, will finish 281 partially-built Costa Blanca properties. They were abandoned when the developers were overwhelmed by the economic crisis.

Undersea gas storage to blame for earthquakes THERE is a ‘direct link’ between more than 450 earthquakes registered in September 2013, and the injection of gas into an undersea gas storage facility in the Gulf of Valencia. The National Geographic Institute (IGN) into seismic activity in the area confirmed that over that period there were more than 450 earthquakes in the Gulf of Valencia, the strongest registering 4.2 degrees on the Richter Scale. This area is not normally known for seismic activity, and between 1920 and 2013 had only registered 203 tremors, the strongest 3.3 degrees. Although they did not cause any damage, calls were received by alarmed

local residents who felt 15 of the tremors. Environmental groups have blamed the earthquakes on the injection of gas into the storage
facility, a depleted oil reservoir off the coast of Vinaros, operated by Castor, 1.7 kilometres under the Mediterranean Sea, near a fault line.
In October, the government had to agree, and this has now been confirmed by the IGN, which said that seismic impact studies for the
plant were inadequate. The IGN study also reveals a previously unidentified fault line which was not taken into account. The injection of gas, it says, has accelerated the seismotectonic process. Left-wing party Izquierda Unida has asked for the plant to be closed and for this not to cost money to citizens and users of gas. The Ministry for Industry has said that no decisions will be made on whether the storage facility will be reopened until they have conclusions from several international experts who are evaluating the IGN study. The storage facility was closed in 2013 for safety reasons.
