Costa is gearing up for a busy summer THE tourism sector on the Costa Blanca is gearing up for a busy summer after a ‘very positive’ Easter. Hotels in Alicante City achieved 80 per cent occupancy over the May Day bank holiday. That’s according to data by the Provincial Hotel Association (APHA). Councillor Marta García Romeu said the figures were very positive and follow on from Easter week where the city had an average hotel occupancy of 86 per cent; 10 per cent higher than in 2013. Elche also received a boost with the manager of Visitelche, Matias Perez Such, saying the figures show “an improvement within the sector, one of the main drivers of the local economy.” Hotel occupancy also increased over Easter
from 57 per cent in 2013 to 69 per cent. Hotel employer Hosbec put occupancy in Benidorm over the weekend at an average of 100 per cent, leading to hopes of a bumper summer in other resorts like Torrevieja. Angel Valera from the Provincial Association of Hospitality also noted that tourists were spending
more and added: “There is a much bigger influx of people.”
