Wait is over as TV satellite switch is made
THE long wait is over for expatriate TV viewers; last night was the night that the BBC started to switch to the new satellite. The BBC issued an official announcement stating that the migration of Freeview channels to the new Astra 2E satellite would
be carried out last night (Wednesday). So after months of speculation about what this would mean for satellite TV reception in Spain, viewers should now be getting their answer. Astra has released a map showing the footprint of expected television coverage
following the move. It appears that the Costa Blanca, Mallorca and Inland Spain areas will continue to receive a good quality reception. The Costa del Sol and Almeria are in a borderline zone and it is currently unclear how these areas will be affected.
Save our homes! Plea to European Court of Human Rights
OWNERS of ‘illegal’ homes in the Axarquia have decided to take their case to the European Court of Human Rights in a bid to save their properties. Members of Save Our Homes in Axarquia (SOHA) have resolved to place greater emphasis on legal action given the lack of success that protesting and direct dialogue has achieved. Philip Smalley, Chairman of SOHA, said: “After seven years of fighting for our rights, the problem seems to be getting worse, not better. “If the regional government (Junta de Andalucia) cannot listen to us face to face, then perhaps they will listen in the courts,” he added. Now the pressure group will appoint a new fundraising chief in order to build a fighting fund big enough to take them to Strasbourg. The resolution was approved by members during SOHA’s annual general meeting
