Changeover is almost complete THE Regional Health Department has despatched SIP health cards to all Alicante health centres. Several centres ran out of substitutes to replace damaged or obsolete health cards incompatible with the new electronic prescription system. Many had to be changed because they were too thick to work in conjunction with health centre printers. The necessary documentation has now been received at all the centres, with the exception of Pilar de la Horadada.

Keira needs help Race against time to raise therapy cash
By Dilip Kuner THE mother of a girl with cerebral palsy faces a race against time to raise funds for urgent therapy after a disappointing turnout at a fundraising event. Five-year-old Keira, who lives in Finestrat, has been making great progress in a bid to lead as normal a life as possible since starting therapy sessions, which are not available on the Spanish NHS. But she needs €2,500 to help pay for the next tranche of intensive therapy due to start on November 4. Her mother, British-born Debbie, said of Keira: “She has come a long way. People cannot believe how much better she is. That is the thing about the therapy, it really does work. It is not as if we just want to try something in case it might work, it really is making a difference.” Keira had an operation on her legs on May 14, and Debbie had planned

Debbie, whilst grateful for all the
effort put in by organisers, said: “I don’t know why there was such a low turnout, maybe because it was the end of the month.” She added that a similar event last year was a success and helped pay for previous treatment.
