Abuse crackdown as mother killed A CRACKDOWN on domestic violence is set for 2013. Orihuela’s ‘Coordination Committee Against Gender Violence’ met yesterday (Wednesday) to discuss any additional measures that need to be put in place to help combat abuse and protect victims. The move came as the first fatality of the year was reported in Valencia. The victim, 33, was stabbed to death by her former

partner and the father of her two children. The man who surrendered himself to police following the attack and is now awaiting trial. Government Delegate in Valencia, Paula Sánchez de León, spoke of her ‘utter revulsion against this type of crime’. Around 30 per cent of all British national arrests in the Alicante consular district last year were related to domestic

violence and the Spanish authorities are keen to highlight help is available to all residents of whatever nationality with helplines available in all languages. Information guides on welfare rights for victims of gender-based violence are available in English and anyone can call the domestic violence hotline on 016. The British Consulate also offers help. anything inappropriate from his mobile phone, and has welcomed a full enquiry. This follows claims that on one weekend in November 2009, €1,120 was billed to his official

phone for internet connections whilst in the UK. He is the latest employee to be embroiled in the ongoing mobile phone scandal. New practices are now in place.
