Pego wins court fight over rates PEGO COUNCIL has won victory in a dispute over rates. An Alicante court has ruled in the
council’s favour in a wrangle over IBI tax paid in 2008, 2009 and 2010. The payments were later ruled too high and cancelled by the Valencia Supreme Court in 2010. But an Alicante judge has now thrown out a bid by an irritated Pego resident to recoup the overpayment. Pego Mayor Carmelo Ortala said: “The town hall has been proved right.” The ruling is likely to be equally welcomed by his counterpart in Javea.
