Summer sales not so hot From Front Page Pedro Reig, President of Covaco, a regional trade employers group, agreed that the summer sales this year seemed to go largely unnoticed. “Sales are not what they were, and never will be the same again,” he said, referring to the government plan to allow retailers to offer
discounts throughout the year, rather than only during the traditional winter and summer sales periods. But Covaco did note that in odd tourist areas, due in part to foreign visitors and to a lesser extent the Spanish, the sale of appliances increased, perhaps due to the impending VAT rises.
4 held for cash grab from disabled 84-year-old man FOUR Romanians who stole €850 from a disabled 84-year-old in Alicante have been arrested, police have revealed. The man using a walking frame had just withdrawn the money from a bank in Salinas when three women distracted him, one
allegedly took the cash from his pocket and ran to a waiting vehicle, the officers said. Police intercepted the vehicle later on the road to Sax. The women and the driver were arrested and the money was allegedly found hidden in a hairbrush in the car.
Meanwhile, Joy Jobbins who has just taken over Timeless Fashion which sells clothes and accessories from Punta Marina Commercial, Centre, said August was not a bad month and that the shop ticked over. Having commenced the sales period in July, most of her clients were British, Scandinavian, Spanish and Russian. And for Digital Satellite Systems which operate throughout the Costa Blanca southern region, they report August sales of satellite and British television systems were good. There are also indications that some businesses, including cafés, restaurants and bars will try to absorb the HIDING PLACE: Cash in hairbrush. VAT price rises.
