FUENGIROLA recycled more than 1,800 tons of paper and cardboard last year, the second highest total on the Costa del Sol. The data appears to show that the numerous initiatives and awareness campaigns promoted by the council to improve recycling behaviour have been working. Councillor for cleaning, Pedro Vega said: “The figures show that the habits of residents are changing and more and more people are recycling properly, using the correct containers.”

A learning environment by Tom Woods MORE than 4,500 school pupils in Estepona will take part in environmental education activities in an initiative to raise awareness about the importance of the issue. Workshops will be organised in the schools of the town throughout the year, run by officials from the council’s Environment Department. They aim to make young people aware of the need to take care of the environment, teaching short to medium term solutions to prevent unnecessary harm. Councillor for Development, Ana Velasco, has commented that the environmental programme is also available to charities and social groups in the locality that are interested.
