Making PV Panel Installation and Maintenance Safe

Solar energy in the UK is growing at a record pace and we are now seeing stable, sustained growth across the sector.

As fossil fuel energy bills soar, rooftop solar in particular is now very popular and often installed to existing commercial buildings.

More and more businesses are investing in solar as it is a proven way to cut their energy bills and carbon emissions.

Figures revealed by Solar Energy UK mean that the UK is on course to double its solar capacity by 2030, but this needs to be trebled if the UK is to meet its net zero target for 2050.

While this boom has many environmental benefits, it has the disadvantage of changing rooftop traffic patterns to unprotected roof edges, rooflights, and fragile roof areas, turning large roof areas that previously did not need any access, or very minimal access to limited areas for gutter cleaning, into areas where full roof access is needed 3-4 times a year for inspection and maintenance of solar arrays. As with other installed technology and appliances (for example, domestic and commercial boilers), all solar PV systems need professional inspection and maintenance at least annually, but potentially up to four times per year, to identify and resolve technical and other problems before and as they arise.
