Welcome messages LETTER FROM ESU’S CHAIRPERSON – ELISABETH GEHRKE Dear participants, It is our great pleasure to welcome you to the 67th board meeting of the European Students’ Union and the human rights and academic freedom seminar in Baku, Azerbaijan. This event promises to be a unique experience for all of those attending. As the first large-‐scale event in the Caucasus region this event promises to hold many firsts for ESU and new experiences for the delegates. We excited for and looking forward to the coming days in Baku. BM67 and the seminar promise to be an eye-‐opening experience and will give new cultural insights for all involved. It has been many years where since an ESU seminar was dedicated to human rights and academic freedom. We are very excited to take this policy area further especially when human rights and academic freedom have increasingly come under threat on a global level. The location for such a seminar will provide an interesting and colourful backdrop for raising awareness and deepening the understanding of the role of the organised student movement in relation to human rights. The board meeting itself will offer many interesting discussions as the priorities for the upcoming three years, plan of work and budget will be discussed. We are certain that at the end of this week we will have a clear and hopeful vision for ESU’s future.
