Notes DROUGHT DOGS NEED NEW HOMES

Editor’s note ...

Eumundi Rotary is sponsoring Doonan local Bron Innes, to drive to drought ravaged Moree to collect abandoned dogs, then rehome them here on the Coast. She’s on the hunt for hinterlanders able to help by taking a dog. “At first I was finding homes amongst my friends, but they all have dogs now!” Bron explained.

There’s lots of wonderful, creative energy and community spirit flowing through the village lately as the weeks slip by and slide into Christmas. Over the next couple of weeks the hinterland is getting festive with Christmas celebrations and night markets. The Eumundi Vibe portrait photographic exhibition opening made us have a good hard look at ourselves and, in the words of photographer Kita, “Gee you’re a good looking bunch Eumundi.”

Bron shared that Moree Council is having to euthanise about eight dogs a week. “I will be doing a couple more trips before Christmas, to take food across and to bring back dogs.”

The kids are completely over school and already in summer holiday mode – especially now the grade 12’s have graduated. End-of-year concerts and exhibitions are plentiful.

For more info about adoption or donations head to Facebook: Bronwyn Innes or barkitect4@gmail.com.

In the last fortnight we had more fires to keep our volunteer brigade busy. And finally had rain…well hail, to green up the fields again and remind us that summer storms are on their way. SACHA HAMILTON-MACL AREN editor@eumundigreen.com.au | PO Box 482, Eumundi 4562

HELPFUL HINTS CHEERS NOT TEARS Jenny Brice, Executive Coach, Eumundi.

I have worked in many business organisations over the years and Christmas is a time of year that brings both cheers and tears. Did you know that sexual harassment and general misconduct when people are under the influence of alcohol can be one of the most pressing problems we have to deal with? I can’t tell you how many jobs have been lost and friendships damaged because of poor decisions at Christmas work parties by otherwise good people. Of course, this can happen in our everyday life as well, but sometimes we let our hair down a little too much... Sadly, the other thing I have had to support is employees who had experienced family trauma during this period - including suicide. We all look to Christmas as a time to relax with friends and family and enjoy life, but for many it highlights isolation, financial woes, employment stresses and it can actually be a really tough time for your mental health. What many organisations are doing now without killing the cheer - is helping prevent the tears and regretful behaviour. How employers are trying to prevent this is mostly common sense, but some have a We Care campaign running up to Christmas that is worth considering as a sort of mental check list before enjoy the party drinks and cutting up the dance floor.

Things like: • Ensure dedicated drivers or transport is organised before Christmas events. • If someone is under the influence, help them avoid doing something they may regret like drive. • The work Christmas party is not the time to tell your employer or work colleagues what you really think. • Focus on people’s positives throughout the year and give the gift of positive feedback. • Help remind employees how indiscretions can have impact on others long past the Christmas cheer. • If you know someone will be alone at Christmas, check in and see they are okay. • At the work party remember it’s still WORK. Merry Christmas everyone. Eumundi is a great community. Lets’ look after each other over this summer period and ensure there is much cheer and few tears. I have had a request to write two articles for the January edition of the Green. Practical advice for first time employees and older workers. Stay tuned! Jennybrice.com.au

FROM 5.30PM, MARKET TERRACES, MEMORIAL DRIVE, EUMUNDI

From Australia to New Zealand, to his workshops in Italy and a stall in Eumundi, Lorenzo Gjergji’s work has taken him to numerous locations. Lorenzo moved to Eumundi because it is, “young in one sense and has so many great opportunities” and it is here he has continued to follow his dreams of selling custom designed jewellery made from recycled silverware forks, knives and the like. But the artisan shared that using recycled materials has its challenges. One of which is sourcing good quality material to make his unique and beautiful jewellery. Op shops, antique suppliers and garage sales provide the silverware he requires for most of his hand made jewellery.

A FREE FAMILY-FRIENDLY FESTIVE EVENT This year, the Eumundi & District Historical Association presents to the community a free family-friendly Christmas Show which will be held on the second night of the famous Eumundi Night Markets.

Eumundi School Choir • Nickleby the Magician Park Bench Ukelele Group • Miss Donna The Santas Festive Show • The Boston BelleS

Proudly Supported by the Sunshine Coast Council’s grants program

Lorenzo has always wanted to create, even when he was a child. He explained that once on a school camp he made a necklace and earrings from chamomile flowers. He sees this as a sign. Lorenzo loves his job and he really loves meeting

Even though Lorenzo is one of the many local artisans in the area, he also shows his true community spirit by giving his time and knowledge to train a group of Eumundi soccer players. For a man of many talents and passions, surprisingly he tells us that the one thing he is constantly thinking about is what to cook next!

BELLI’S CHRISTMAS DANCE The Belli Hall held its Christmas Dance recently with a fantastic turn out of around 80 locals. The Sunshine Swing Band provided the music and called the classic favourites for dancers of all levels of experience to follow. The festive night included a traditional supper and lucky door prize. Kevin Conlon of the Belli Hall committee shared that regular dances at the Belli Hall have been going “for at least 20 years or longer.” The next month’s dance will see in the New Year. bellihall.com.au

Community CR GREG ROGE RSON Division 10

Regular readers of this column will recall the concerns I outlined a few weeks ago with regards to the suite of significant Divisional boundary changes which appeared certain to come into effect as of next year’s local council elections in March. Under the previous proposed boundary changes, Eumundi would’ve been one of many hinterland towns and communities no longer included in Division 10. Thankfully, most of the Sunshine Coast’s 10 Divisions have been put on hold, at least for now. Again, I hear some of you saying ‘but Rogo, what do you care, you’re retiring next March?’ Well, as I said previously, I don’t believe in change without reason and I believe the changes the Electoral Commission Queensland proposed to make were too much at this point in time. Night Markets You know the countdown is well and truly on to Christmas and for the Eumundi Night

Markets! So get on down to Memorial Dr every Friday evening from the 6 December. Funding Finder I’m really excited to tell you that council has partnered with Australia’s most powerful grant search engine, Grant Guru, to connect to more than $35.9 billion worth of grants - all from one easy-to-access location. sunshinecoast.grantguru.com.au Merry Christmas! Seeing as this will be my final column for the year, I’d like to wish you all a very merry and safe Christmas and New Year. I hope you all take some time to relax and enjoy the company of family and friends over the festive period and of course indulge in some tasty Christmas goodies! If you’re travelling to see loved ones, particularly if you’re driving long distances, please take extra care on the roads. I’ll catch you all safe and sound in the New Year!

Community REMEMBRANCE D AY S E R V I C E This year a small but reverent group of locals met under the McIntyre WW1 Memorial Tree (opposite the Post Office) for the annual Remembrance Day service and minute’s silence. Eumundi’s man of many a sage word, Bob Ward, led the moving proceedings which included Retired Air Marshall Geoff Shepherd reading the Ode; They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. We will remember them. After the laying of the wreathes, a morning tea catered by Peter Wolf was shared at the Eumundi School of Arts hall.

“It takes a village to raise a vibe. Kita Lawrence, Eumundi photographer

Arts VILLAGE VIBE CAPTURED At the beginning of 2018 I created a project called #TheLocalVibe. The idea involved photographing and interviewing the people of Eumundi in an effort to capture the diverse, vibrant and caring nature of this quirky little community. I asked the people that I photographed two questions: What is your connection to Eumundi?

Kita Lawrence, Eumundi

back as possible. By doing that it allowed the project to just evolve on its own and by word of mouth (and in the Green). There were a handful of people that I contacted and organised times for the interviews, but most of the participants were just going about their normal routine and were just coming into town for work, to order a coffee, or down at their local watering hole for a beer.

There were three locations that I used to capture the Eumundi vibe and they were all on Memorial Dr. At the start, I set up a simple little DIY studio in my garage with a black back drop and a couple light boxes. I then moved that set up into The Store café around the beginning of 2019. Then lastly in mid 2019, I moved it into Joe’s Waterhole Pub. Over 90 people sat in

front of my camera and shared with me. Some sat for over 20 minutes, some for only a quick 30 seconds, either way they all played a huge roll in allowing me to capture a snapshot of this town’s people and ‘vibe’. It being my first attempt at a project like this and one of this scale, I was a bit sceptical Cont’d on pg 22

What are you grateful for? And I attempted to photograph the emotion attached to their answers in their faces. To capture the authenticity of the town, I decided to keep the execution of the project as laid

Kita Lawrence’s Exhibition #LocalVibe will be showing at Wan’din’in Art Space until Saturday 11 January, 2020. The book containing the collection of all her Eumundi Portraits and their answers to Kita’s two questions, is available to order at the gallery space or via kitalawrencephotography@gmail.com.

Heri tage S U N N Y B R A E H I S T O RY E X H I B I T I O N Wendy Birrell, Discover Eumundi manager The Eumundi Showgrounds property house was built in 1910 and was originally worked as a dairy farm. By 1923 local nurse Emily Luke and her family lived in the house. As the population increased in the Eumundi area, so did the need for medical services. When Dr Bearblock moved to the village in about 1923, he asked Emily Luke to consider opening a hospital to treat his patients. The Luke family decided that their house, Sunny Brae, would become Eumundi’s first (and only) hospital. Emily Luke opened the Sunny Brae Private Hospital in 1924 and catered for mainly maternity patients and accidents, as well as some general work treating injuries and respiratory complaints, nursing the elderly, teeth extractions, removal of tonsils and other minor surgery. At times it was very busy, with as many as eight babies born within 12 days. ‘Nurse’ as Emily became known, took personal interest in “her babies” and was thrilled to hear news of each one. She received photos to show their progress that were often inscribed, “To Nurse with love…” A stroke in early 1958 caused Emily Luke to close the hospital and Sunny Brae once more became a family home. In 1981 the Sunny Brae house block was sold and turned it into a B&B and restaurant. It was then taken over for a development

project that never eventuated. The property became derelict and narrowly avoided demolition in the late 90’s. In 1997 the Eumundi Historical Ass. applied to the National Trust and Qld Heritage Register to list Sunny Brae Hospital and it was included as a place worthy of preservation as part of our National Heritage. With the bypass to the east of Eumundi in the late 90’s the showground at the southern end of town was greatly reduced in size. After negotiations with various government departments and the Maroochy Shire Council, the Sunny Brae building and grounds were entrusted to the Eumundi Park, Recreation and Show Ground Association in 2000.

Books SUMMER READING IS STILL A T H I N G Judith Pattison, Doonan

E X E R C I S I N G C R E AT I V I T Y

Do people still do summer reading? Does summer, as we knew it, still exist? The idea of long lazy days by the beach or in the garden with Christmas gift books set aside to savour and share sounds like a romantic notion from the past. Here on the edge of the Tewantin State Forest, with family coming from away for Christmas, I’m hoping for enough water and no immediate fire threats! I’m sure others are even more preoccupied. And yet, this may be exactly the time we need to appreciate the gift of reading and the pleasure and importance of books as gifts.

Writing poetry is a MOVING way for me to tell stories and express myself. I also enjoy I don’t want to move writing short stories Move where? and dabbling in song writing. I think That doesn’t bother me I discovered poetry Move what? as part of an English assignment. I had to That’s what I don’t like write a series of short Move what? You ask? poems in the style of the book we were Move house studying. I didn’t really groups know what I was going Move friend to write about, but Move away from your favourite restaurant started putting words And the cinema down the road that on paper anyway, does half-price ticket s on Tuesdays and soon enough it developed into some Move closer to the big smoke kind of story. The great Move closer to streetlight s that replace thing I liked about the stars writing the poem series was that I didn’t Closer to towering buildings really know where the that make you feel so small you plot was going, I just could kind of ‘rolled with just shrink into nothing (poof!) it’ and it turned into something that I’m But the absolute worst part of moving pretty proud of. Is moving schools. Cont’d on pg 22

I will certainly be giving books this year, as always. I take this seriously. They will just have to get underwear somewhere else! The trick to choosing books for people is to know something about their current tastes and interests. Seems obvious, but not always simple. My adult children are timepoor, living very busy lives with their children and work. One son reads mostly political or scientific articles online, but he appreciates an annual magazine subscription with articles on a range of topics. He is also a fan of Tim Winton and Tim Flannery. He will probably get Cloud Street which he hasn’t yet read and Tim Flannery’s Life: Selected Readings. My other son reads the latest satire and social commentary when he has time. I’ll have to get some specific input from him on this one.

Nicola Ann Lafferty, Year 10 GSLC, Eumundi

I’m going to have a copy of Alice Hoffman’s latest, The World That We Knew around. Might just have been pre-read and rewrapped! For me - and for just in case - it will be Bill Bryson’s The Body: A Guide for Occupants. For my partner, Tell me Why: My life and Music, by Archie Roach. One everyone will like is Heather Rose’s, Bruny. The grandchildren, ages four to 16, will get gift certificates to be used at the best bookstore in Eumundi. There, they will take up hours of staff time, at the busiest time of the year, trying to make ever so careful selections. These will give me some insight into their current interests and what they might like for birthdays next year! I hope the books will be enjoyed, shared around and discussed despite what the climate holds in store for us all.

My daughter and daughter in- law might like Margaret Atwood’s The Testaments, The Dutch House, by Anne Patchett; or Elizabeth Strout’s, Olive, again. However, their tastes are a bit more eclectic than mine.

Wishing you & your family a Merry Christmas and a safe and Happy New Year 0438 635 551 www.annasbookkeepingservice.com.au 13

COLOURFUL FUN After a busy year of working hard, behaving in class and trying to stay neat and tidy, Eumundi State School (ESS) students spent an afternoon running about getting colourful, wet and messy! The ESS P&C ran the school’s first Colour Run in an effort to fundraise for play equipment. Event organiser and P&C President Nat Brewster said the funds raised would be going towards, “putting money into our school playgrounds.”

The Eumundi Calisthenics Club held their spectacular end of year concert at the Eumundi Performing Arts Hall on Saturday 16 November. It was an extra special concert, marking five years of Eumundi Calisthenics. Principle dance teacher Fiona Greig, along with her teaching assistant (and daughter) Erin, did an amazing job teaching 51 students weekly all year. Fiona created a fun, safe, noncompetitive space as well as inspire, motivate and equip students with the confidence to shine on stage. This year, there were 24 entertaining performances: five different age groups, each performing about five different routines, showcasing what calisthenics is all about - a fun combination of; gymnastics, ballet, musical theatre, modern

dance, singing, marching and routines using rods and clubs. Some highlights included; the lyrical items from Shrek, The Lion King, Annie, and Pitch Perfect. The students were so excited and happy to perform on stage under the lights. Our little community School of Arts hall was packed with proud family and friends cheering them on.

The Colour Run was an obstacle course that the children completed in their class group, while teachers, students and parent volunteers sprayed them with water and colourful powder, and the rest of the school cheered them on. Kids started out in, colourful headbands and glasses and clean, white T-shirts that were quickly transformed into technicolour patterns by the end of the run. Nat said they had a wonderful show of parent volunteers turn out to help get the kids messy. “It was lovely to see so many parents from the younger classes come along and get involved,” she said. “I hope to see all these new faces coming along to the P&C next year and help bring more fun activities and events to the school for the kids to enjoy,” Nat enthused.

Many parents volunteered to help make this concert happen and all proceeds from bar sales were donated to the Eumundi Rural Fire Brigade. Students were presented with their medallions after the finalé. Lilly Dosen, Erica and Phoebe Gladman, Erin and Sarah Greig, Lilly Harris and Sophia Ryan were proudly presented with their five year award trophies.

Eumundi Calisthenics students will also be performing at this year’s Doonan Community Carols on Sunday 1 December, Eumundi Show Grounds, 1 Black Stump Rd, Eumundi, 4 - 8pm.

Bourbon Bacon Brittle Janet Millington, Eumundi CWA

The CWA Busy Chicks finished the year with a fun evening of singing Carols around the piano in the CWA hall. We also road tested this Bourbon Bacon Peanut Brittle (recommended for strong teeth) as part of our shared supper of Christmas treats. This is an old favourite with a twist; gluten free - but only for meat eaters. It was very moreish so be careful to only make it when friends and family are coming over or you’ll eat a whole batch yourself in one sitting. Ingredients

• 1/3 cup cranberries

Marinated Crunchy Bacon. • 500g bacon • 2 tblsp bourbon (I used husband’s whiskey) • ½ cup brown sugar • little cracked pepper (optional 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes)

Method For Bacon

Brittle • 2 cups sugar • ½ cup of water • ½ cup unsalted butter • 1/3 cup artificial maple syrup (Corn syrup or real maple syrup would be fine too) • 1 tblsp bourbon • 1 tsp vanilla extract • ½ tsp baking powder • 250g pecans, roasted & smashed

until caramel is light brown and reaches 150 °C (if you have a candy thermometer). Otherwise the consistency will thicken at 120 °C so just stir a bit after that.

1. Line large baking tray with baking paper. You can put a rack on top to lay bacon on for crispier result. 2. Top bacon with 2 tblsp bourbon, brown sugar and pepper. Preheat oven to 210°C for about 13-15 minutes or cook low and slow at 120 °C for 40-60 minutes. 3. Once cool enough chop up and set aside. For Brittle 1. In a large saucepan combine sugar, water, butter and syrup. Bring to the boil. Cook over a medium high heat, stirring occasionally,

Busy C hicks

2. Remove from heat and stir in remaining bourbon, vanilla and baking soda. 3. Move quickly to stir in nuts, toss in cranberries and scrape brittle into a lined baking tray. Spread into a thin even layer. Work fast as it sets quickly and I messed this part up. Sprinkle with bacon pieces. 4. After the brittle cools for 30 mins break into chunks. 5. Best to eat on the same day.

Living WEEDS FOR CHRISTMAS DINNER!

Heidi Merika, Apothecarist, Eumundi

Gravy? Check. Roast potatoes? Check. Dandelion salad with nettle dressing? Say what?! Think that last one doesn’t sound a lot like Christmas? Think again because Christmas foods can be bursting with wild weed nutrition! As the festive season rolls around, more and more people are tweaking their Christmas traditions with sustainability and compassion in mind. Food traditions has always played a large role in how many families’ celebrate and I recommend looking at what nature is gifting you this Christmas before heading to the supermarket to stock up.

around the world wildcrafting local plants for food and medicine is still widely practiced. Everything we need is provided by nature. We just need to know how to find it and use it.

As a naturopath and lecturer in nutrition and herbal medicine I became increasingly aware that we were overlooking local and freely available sources of food and medicine and spending large sums of money on expensive imported foods, herbs and supplements. But many of our common backyard plants are bursting with nutrition and medicine. In many cases they contain four times as much protein, vitamins and minerals as cultivated vegetables - and in some cases as much as ten times the amount! In many countries

• Replace rocket in salads with dandelions, nodding tops or farmer’s friends. • Instead of strawberries use wild raspberries, blackberry nightshade berries or native lilly pilly or midgem berries - both ripen in December in time for Christmas. • Make a wild weed salad that’s Christmas colour-themed by adding a splash of colour from

Outdoors BUSY EUMUNDI BRIGADE

GUIDE TO COMMON HINTERLAND S N A K E S Nathan Bignell, The Fauna Catcher, Belli Park

Bob Miller, Eumundi Fire Brigade First Officer As most of you already know, the Sunshine Coast and much of Queensland has been hit hard by bush fires in the last few weeks. Your local 4562 volunteer firefighters have been working tirelessly throughout all of this, manning trucks and helping out our neighbouring brigades to get their fires under control.

Peregian beach was just the start to an intense fire season. Noosa North Shore has been ablaze for most of the last month, plus Cooroibah and Jimna - we have even sent brigade members to Glenn Innes in NSW to offer some relief to the fire crews down there. Cont’d on pg 20

It’s that time of year again – snakes are on the move! We’re lucky to have a diverse range of species in the 4562 area - all of which are critical to maintaining a healthy Hinterland ecosystem. Here are some of the more common species you may encounter in our area over the summer. *Remember, like all animals, snakes may attempt to inflict a bite in self-defence if threatened or provoked. Whether they’re venomous or not, it’s always best to keep a respectful distance. If you have concerns about any snake, contact a local snake catcher.

Most 4562 dwellers will be familiar with this common snake species, we pretty much all have one cohabiting with us. Carpet pythons, which can exceed 3 metres in length, are constrictors and usually eat mammals such as rodents, possums, and bats; however, they can also take small dogs, cats, and many a hinterlander has lost a chicken (or four) to one. They are active during the day and night. Some of the Eumundi Rural Fire Brigade volunteers enjoying some well earned down time at the Movember table tennis challenge at the Imperial Hotel.

Another commonly encountered 4562 species, the Common Tree Snake is generally olive-brown with blue flecks and a yellow belly; however, some specimens are green, brown, or even blue. This slender snake can grow up to 2 metres long, likes to eat frogs, fish and small reptiles, and is an incredible climber!

Danger: Non-venomous

If you see a tiny Loch Ness Monster in your creek or dam, it’s probably one of these guys! Also known as the Freshwater Snake, it has ridges or keels on its scales which help it swim. It feeds mainly on frogs. They can also successfully prey on cane toads so you want one of these guys in the garden. It looks very similar to the dangerously venomous Rough-scaled Snake, which also lives in our area but is less common.

B ROW N T R E E SN A K E (Boiga irregularis) Danger: Mildly venomous

Also known as the Night Tiger, this nocturnal snake is brown to orange in colour with dark, irregular bands. It has a very thin neck and large eyes. These snakes eat small birds and mammals, as well as reptiles and frogs. While only mildly venomous, bites can cause local pain and swelling.

Danger: Mildly venomous

This fast, slender snake is a very common species that is active during the day and night. It has a distinctive pale ring around its eye in the shape of a comma, and usually has a rusty coloured flush down the back of its neck. Bites can cause local pain and swelling, but this snake is not considered dangerous to humans. It usually preys on small reptiles and frogs.

E A S T E R N B ROW N SN A K E (Pseudonaja textilis)

Danger: Dangerously venomous

This is another well-known snake in South East Queensland. Its glossy black colour and red belly make it easy to identify; however, smaller ones can be confused with Smalleyed Snakes and some species of Crown Snakes. While it has potent venom, it is generally a very placid snake and spends most of its time around creeks and other water bodies looking for frogs and reptiles.

SM A LL - E Y E D SN A K E (Cryptophis nigrescens) Danger: Dangerously venomous

Danger: Dangerously venomous

Most people are very aware of this snake as it’s responsible for more fatalities in Australia than any other snake. It is highly variable in colour—it can be black, brown or orange, with or without stripes or flecks. It can grow up to 2 metres. It’s fast and nervous, which makes it aggressive when threatened. An Eastern Brown’s favourite prey is mice and rats, so it enjoys hanging about in sheds.

{ T H E G R E E N 27 November 2019

This snake is usually dark grey or inky black with a pinkish belly. It is smaller than the Red-bellied Black, only growing to less than a metre, and with much smaller eyes (as the name suggests). Although common in our area, this snake is rarely seen as it is exclusively nocturnal, hunting smaller reptiles and frogs at night. *This is not an exhaustive list. Outdoors Cont’d from pg 18 Eumundi itself has not been untouched by fire either with numerous small blazes over the last couple of weeks. But thanks to our brigade volunteers always answering a callout – even when they’re dead on their feet after helping out at the bigger coastal fires – the Eumundi fires have quickly been brought under control – especially the blaze around Seib and Cash Rds – without much disruption to the busy Eumundi Noosa Rd.

DATES FOR THE DIARY

events.sunshinecoast.qld.gov.au The start of my weekend was a little boring, until my sister Marlie and me decided to set up a backyard waterpark. First, we found one of Mum’s black plastic mats she never ever uses. We chose the perfect spot to lay the base of our slide – a long, grassy hill. But there was some essential preparation to be done first. Removing any rocks and twigs from the site was necessary for our protection. Once we had the area cleared of hazards, we spread the mat out. We sprayed the surface of our ‘slide in the making’ with cold water from our long reaching hose. Then, I scrummaged for my ‘new and improved soap for slides’. I squirted this soap on the plastic and mixed it with the cold water. The slide was ready – well I thought so! On my first slide down the slippery black path, I felt the remaining rocks and twigs beneath the plastic slide. I knew that I had to remove them before I continued. Lifting the plastic, I made sure I gathered all the sticks and rocks I missed the first time.

Now our slide was really ready for action! Standing at the start of the slippery pathway I was ready for blast off. I pounced in a fast forward motion, like superman, landing flat on my belly. I felt the bubbly foam and cold water covering my whole body. It was so exciting! I did it over and over again until I eventually became sick of it. Mmmm bored again until … Spotting the trampoline I came up with another fun idea! This trampoline was going to become the next part of our backyard waterpark. We soaked our trampoline with the ‘new and improved soap for slides’ we had used for the slide. My sister and I climbed onto the trampoline, however, we kept slipping over helplessly. This then turned into a game as we tried our absolute hardest to push each other over. Boredom is now never a problem on a warm weekend with our very own hinterland, backyard waterpark! 20

about whether I could actually pull it off, whether or not I was even capable of executing and completing it. #TheLocalVibe actually really pushed me out of my own comfort zone, for several reasons. I had been predominantly a stay-at-home mum of four prior to this, so this was a huge step for me in many ways. Not to mention this was a self-funded and self-managed project, so I was trying to complete it all in my limited spare time as well. Regardless of the challenges I was very eager to work on it, I loved the whole concept, the interviewing, the portraits, listening to and documenting the gratitude and witnessing it all come together. There were countless late nights and a ridiculous increase in caffeine intake - I gave this project my absolute everything.

I don’t intend on being a poet, musician or author - although who knows what could happen - I am interested in engineering, aviation and design. But I strongly believe that exercising your creativity is both important and beneficial in areas such as engineering and design, which have been stereotyped to be very maths and science based. Wherever I go, I do hope that I find time to continue writing…

I believe the true value of community is how we rise together. This exhibition are simply extensions of that heartfelt notion. And I’m extremely honoured to have had the opportunity to work on and share something that I value so much.
