WELCOME

Welcome to the 2024 Eugene Marathon!

I’m thrilled to welcome each and every one of you to this special weekend in our community. Whether you’re a first-time runner, racing for the win, or anywhere in between, your presence and your commitment to run the 2024 Eugene Marathon adds to the legacy of this community. This is Track Town USA and we’re proud to be part of it!

To those who are visiting our community, we’re honored that you’ve chosen to be here and we take the opportunity to host you seriously. You’ll see businesses welcoming you through our Show Your Bib program, you’ll see the scope of events in Track Town USA this year literally hanging around town on pole banners, and you’ll see countless people out enjoying the parks, rivers, trails, restaurants, wineries, and breweries this beautiful region has to offer.

To those who live here in Track Town, thank you for your continued support. When you participate in the Eugene Marathon weekend, and when you cheer from the stands for athletes at the Prefontaine Classic, the NCAA Track & Field Championships, and the US Olympic Team Trials, you solidify our reputation as the greatest running community around.

This year marks a milestone as we welcome more runners to the Eugene Marathon weekend than ever before! But as we celebrate the growth of this event and what that means for our entire community, let’s not forget that each individual journey is remarkable on its own. Every person who crosses the finish line on the track at Hayward Field will experience the feeling of achievement that so many who’ve crossed that iconic line before have felt. More than 12,000 people will have that same experience this year – from the Marathon to the Half Marathon, Eugene 5K and Kid’s Duck Dash presented by OCCU – which is a testament to the fact that the spirit of Track Town is alive and as strong as ever.

Enjoy the weekend and we’ll see you at the finish line!

1

GET READY TO START

Head to the Start line on 15th Ave. and locate your Corral. Find the sign that corresponds with your age group: Fire Quackers (ages 10+); Quackers (ages 7-9); Waddlers (ages 6 and under, must run with adult chaperone). Direct your child to the appropriate Corral. All children running with a parent should be in the Waddlers Corral, regardless of age. There will be a staggered start with each corral starting a few minutes apart. After the start, head to the finish line through the North gates at Hayward Field.

2

CROSSING THE FINISH LINE

As participants cross the finish line, they will continue walking forward on the track to follow the path on the track toward the tunnel. They will be escorted by volunteers off of the track and through the tunnel to Finisher Field, where they will wait at one of the four color-coded towers that correspond with the color of their bib. Along the way, all participants will receive their finisher medals, water bottle and race bag. Kids who run with an adult will also exit through the tunnel onto Finisher Field.

PARENT REUNION AREA 3

Parents can watch their kids cross the finish line and receive their finisher medal on the track. As kids go through the tunnel, parents can make their way up to the concourse, then go down the staircase to Finisher Field. The staircase is located just behind Sections 120-121. Locate the specific color tower that matches your child's bib to reunify with your child. Parents will not be able to get onto the track from the stands. If you cannot locate your child, go to the information desk located on the concourse.

For any event-related questions, lost & found or if you are separated from your child, go to the Information Desk.

A PLACE IN HISTORY

2024 Medals will once again connect finishers to Hayward Field & Legends of the past

For the fourth consecutive year, the Eugene Marathon is excited to announce that all marathon and half marathon finishers will receive a medal containing a piece of salvaged wood from the timbers that once held up Historic Hayward Field’s East Grandstand, which stood for nearly 100 years and witnessed countless record-setting and legendary athletic achievements.

Just like in 2023, Eugene Marathon partnered locally with Springfield High School’s woodshop to mill down, laser cut and engrave each of the thousands of wood pieces that will be used in this year’s medals.

With the reclaimed wood piece serving as the cornerstone, the 2024 medals tell a story that applauds each finisher’s accomplishment in the present, while connecting them to the legends of the past. The salvaged wood represents history in the physical sense — as a piece of the Historic Hayward Field stadium — and also in a figurative sense: to honor the legendary performances that have taken place on that iconic track.

The Eugene Marathon logo, placed between the medal and the wood, connects each runner’s journey to Hayward Field and to the finish line. And the word “LEGENDS” is engraved into the wood with the letters outlined to signify that each finishers’ legendary tale is both unique and shared. Everyone who crosses the finish line on April 28, 2024 will be a legend in their own way.

34

On the left side of each medal, the words “Running in the Footsteps of…” rise up from the background to the level of “LEGENDS,” to recognize each finisher’s journey to the finish line and the hard work, the commitment and the perseverance it took to get there.

A few smaller details include the marathon or half marathon course route outlined on the back of the medal. And finally the ribbon holder, which, if you look at it from the side is a nod to the silhouette of Historic Hayward Field’s east grandstand.

The remaining 2024 finisher medals – including the Eugene 5K and Kid’s Duck Dash presented by OCCU and the Krusteaz DoubleStack Challenge – keep with the same theme of focusing on the journey to the finish line and “Running in the Footsteps of Legends.”
