Acknowledgement These guidelines grew out of discussions within a working group of the OIE/FAO FMD Reference Laboratory Network and other FMD experts, namely Rossana Allende, Paul Barnett, Hernando Duque, He Jiun, Xiangtao Liu, Eduardo Maradei, Antonio Mendes, Samia Metwally, Susanne Münstermann, Bramhadev Pattnaik, Claudia Perez, Ludovic Plee and Zhang Qiang.
