Negotiated Agreement Contract and Documents

An agreement negotiated by the ENEA governs certified staff. A copy of the current agreement can be downloaded from www.eudoraschools.org. The agreement includes information about pay, leave, grievance procedures, duty time, college reimbursement, and other important items.

Contract Day

The “contract day” refers to the time employees are expected to work. These eight hours must include the 30 minutes before scheduled student arrival time and 15 minutes after students are dismissed. Details about the teacher contract day are outlined in the negotiated agreement. The time before and after school is often used for faculty meetings, student appointments, and teacher planning.

Positions other than teachers should refer to the co-op contract/individual supervisor to know the specific expectations of the job.

According to the negotiated agreement, each teacher new to the district must provide the board with a certificate of health, signed by a licensed physician, within 60 days of the first day of the contract.

Certified and classified employees must have group health insurance with the district or elsewhere if they qualify for KPERS.

Documents Continued

Certified Staff Documentation

Certified teachers also must provide the following to the district office to be placed in the personnel file:

Kansas teacher license

Official university transcript(s)

Certification of Teaching Experience form

Paperwork

An e-mail from the electronic record keeping system, TalentEd, with a link to documents employees should complete before working in the district. Some documents employees may be required to present in person. Contact Amanda Brunkow if you have any questions or concerns about what you need to complete or deadlines for completion. (Those staff members employed by the special education co-op should check with co-op administrators for all required paperwork.)

Licensure for Certified Staff

Teachers new to the profession working under an initial twoyear license are required to participate in a mentor/induction program during the first two years of teaching.

Current license (initial or professional) employees have list the requirements for renewal. Individuals are responsible for ensuring that they have a valid Kansas teaching license at all times employed by the district. Applications for license renewal are available six months before it expires. Approval from the state can take four to eight weeks. If there are questions about the application, it may take longer. Contact Amanda Brunkow at West Resource Center for help with the required fingerprinting, if needed.

Professional development points during the life of current license are needed to be eligible to renew it. Points are earned by attending staff development days and earning college credit. Teachers without an advanced degree need 160 professional development points, with at least half coming from college credit. Teachers with an advanced degree need 120 professional development points for recertification.

The state requires districts to provide documentation of teacher credentials. Contact your principal or Amanda Brunkow at West Resource Center with concerns or questions.

The pay period runs from the 7th of the current month through the 6th of the following month (example: Oct. 7 through Nov. 6). Paychecks are distributed on or near the 15th of each month according to the payroll schedule. The first paycheck for new school employees will be in September.

Timekeeping

If participating in work that qualifies for extra duty pay (substituting during plan period, working concession stands, ticket gates, or other activities), these hours must be recorded using a time card or the electronic timekeeping system. Check with the building’s head secretary to find out how to record time for extra duty or hourly wages, including approval procedures.

Attire

Dressing For Everyday

Regardless of job title, all clothing should be neat, clean, and appropriate for the assigned work.

Additional Guidance

For additional guidance about what to wear to work, or if questions arise about choosing appropriate clothing, speak to the building principal.

Cardinal Gear

To get Cardinal gear you can reach out to athletic directors and/or your building principal. Cara Kimberlin (EHS Athletic Director) typically sends out an email that provides details at the start of Eudora High School sports season with a link to the online store.

Why Mentoring? Mentor Program

Extensive research indicates that mentoring new educators has a positive effect, both on the professionals and on students. Eudora Schools is proud to support a building mentor program that pairs teachers new to the profession with a designated colleague mentor. Colleague mentors work within a defined program to offer new teachers the support and guidance that are critical to a new teacher’s success.

Help and Support

"Our mentoring program is designed to create a true sense of belonging and connection and to set up our new teachers for success not only in their first year but in all the years to follow."
- Heather Hundley Director of School Improvement

Mentors

All new teachers will work individually with their assigned mentors throughout their first and second years of teaching. These sessions are a great tool to recognize and reinforce things going well and offer possible solutions for areas needing improvement. Colleague mentors are chosen by building principals through an application process. Mentors are teachers, well established both in their classroom and in the district, who have expressed a desire to help make a first-year teacher’s experience as positive and rewarding as possible.

Evaluations

What to Expect

The McRel evaluation system is used to evaluate employees twice within the first 60 school days of each semester, usually in October and February, for the first two years. The first observation must be scheduled at least two school days in advance, including the day and time to be observed. More detailed information about teacher evaluation can be found in the negotiated agreement. The evaluation also will include multiple measures of student growth, as required by the Kansas Department of Education.

The evaluation process includes a pre-conference with the evaluator and two or more teaching observations. It is then concluded in an observation conference two days after the formal observation. The observation conference includes reviewing items related to the observation and other observation matters not directly observable in the classroom.

Mentors

There is absolutely no evaluative relationship between the mentors or mentor director and the teachers they assist. Teachers can rest assured that any concerns or questions they take to their mentors will be held in strict confidence Likewise, principals are prohibited from asking the mentor teachers or coordinator for evaluative

teachers.

The Evaluator

Teachers will be evaluated by the building principal or assistant principal. Noncertified staff members are evaluated by a supervisor at least one time each year.

Curriculum

Curriculum Development Model

The district uses a guaranteed and viable curriculum written by Professional Learning Communities and reviewed by the Curriculum Coordinating Council. This model is a system for academic programs with step-by-step processes for governance, curriculum, instruction, assessment, and staff development.

Governance

The Curriculum Coordinating Council (CCC) includes a variety of stakeholders within the district and community. This group meets periodically to review the curriculum.

Curriculum Professional Learning Committees (PLCs) in partnership with Subject Area Committees (SAC) map the curriculum for their grade level or subject, oversee its implementation, select supporting resources, and prepare and validate assessments aligned with specific standards.

KSDE

Using KSDE

There is a tremendous amount of information available to teachers on the Kansas State Department of Education website, ksde.org. A good place to start is on the Teaching and Learning tab. From this point, there are dozens of resources, including information about state standards, licensure, and report cards for the state’s districts and schools.

KSDE offers comprehensive online data about the demographics and test scores of districts and schools across the state. This is the best place to find information such as the breakdowns of ethnic and racial groups, the number of free/reduced lunch students, rates of state aid, and standardized testing results.

Teacher Resources

Other instructional resources can be found on the Cardinal Compass

Goals for Graduates Student Success Social-Emotional Learning

A successful Kansas high school graduate has the academic preparation, cognitive preparation, technical skills, employability skills, and civic engagement to be successful in postsecondary education, in the attainment of an industry-recognized certification, or in the workforce without the need for remediation.

The commitment to students’ social-emotional learning addresses student skills, including behavior, emotional wellness, and social skills. A shared staff responsibility, the counseling staff, is in place to help guide and coach teachers and provide leadership in implementing the counseling curriculum and programs

Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports After-School Programs

The district has implemented the PBIS model, an evidence-based approach that teaches students appropriate behavior, reinforces good behavior and identifies and solves students’ smaller behavioral problems before they become serious.

Quest (Eudora Elementary) and The Zone (Eudora Middle School) provide a variety of engaging activities for participating students in a social group setting The programs are designed to enhance all areas of student learning academic, social, and emotional in a fun, supportive environment
