crew the good times, the O spring only wants the bad. Let the B ad Times Roll is not only the name of the poppunk band’s 2021 album, it’s also its latest tour. Yes, the rock band formed in 1984 that knows you wanna hit that is still making music and touring, and we’re sure the band’s middle-aged fans will be happy to hear that they’re making a stop in D etroit on Friday at the Fillmore. We guess they really have been on a roll with all the girls they know all these years. Apparently the kids still aren’t alright.

UNTIL JUNE 5

Detroit ’67

D ominique Morisseau’s play D etroit ’67 will make you laugh out loud one moment and cry the next, followed by the urge to sing along to its brilliant Motown soundtrack. The play takes place at an after-hours party spot in the basement of Chelle and Lank Poindexter’s childhood home. Things start to head south after Lank rescues a white woman they find on the side of the road who’s obviously just had the crap beat out of her. Meanwhile, tensions have erupted between B lack residents and racist police who want to prevent D etroit from becoming a “negro city,” and the D etroit Rebellion of 1967 begins. B ut the rebellion itself isn’t the point of the play. The point is how the families of victims of police brutality are left to pick up the pieces following their loss. It’s how the media and authorities choose the narrative, painting victims as thugs and aggressors rather than entrepreneurs, dreamers, mothers, or brothers. Through it all, the most important theme is hope.
