ETHOS

EMERGENT INTERNATIONAL

The very best emerging products, people, places, technology, services and philosophies raising the bar of excellence of inspiration and luxury living in 2024.
As a summer baby, my very first five years were happily spent living life at a million miles an hour, chubby fists clutching daisies and gut deep laughter, chasing fireflies, adventure and being in nature They couldn’t keep shoes on my feet because I wanted to feel EVERYTHING The grass, the sunshine, even the fat raindrops when they would first begin to drop
Back then, life felt simple, and it was. One of my favorite quotes is, “Life is either a daring adventure or it is nothing.” This has been my philosophy in letting my love of design, and spirited adventure, art, music, fashion and culture sweep me up into creating Ethos Design Collective, a magazine and a curated, by-invitation-only, app.
It was truly inevitable, as I pursued art, music, design, psychology and journalism in school, intersecting with my love of science, movement, dance and experimental baking. I loved to read and loved creative writing, even more so. My own unique flair for fashion started and ended with me sewing my own costumes and drawing my artwork on hole-y jeans, with labels I’d sewn on them.
Anything that piqued my curiousity was fervently pursued. I sang first soprano in acapella choir, played softball, played violin, bowled on a junior league and helped my mom do craft-y things.
I seized every opportunity to explore and collage my future from magazines, which turned to Interior Design when I was about 11 years old. My Dad was a paint artist /entrepreneur who worked on designer showhouses. My dream came full circle when he and I got to do my designs together with his artistry.

Through her commitment to support her Ugandan Community, Rebecca carved out a niche for her beautiful fashion pieces by sourcing all of her fabrics from Jinja

There was no question that she was destined to thrive, no matter where she was planted, guided by a kind heart and empathy for others Rebecca reflects on her journey, saying, “I grew up in Jinja, Uganda, near Lake Victoria and the source of the Nile River I studied social work in college, focusing on Children, Youth, and Development A few years ago, while volunteering as an interpreter with International Medical Relief, I met my husband He sponsored my move to the US, where we started our life together Upon my arrival, I worked with children and taught preschool for over 5 years before transitioning to working with seniors.”
Little did she know that her fabulous hair, radiant smile and welcome demeanor would set her on her path of divine purpose. She writes, “A couple of years ago, I was asked by my hairdresser to model in the inaugural Black Excellence Gala, a hair and fashion show which I did and was the beginning of my modeling career.” Given that our discovery of Rebecca was at the inaugural show for Boise Fashion Week, we couldn’t ignore how the stars had aligned
“I have mostly been involved in domestic modeling including fashion shows, hair shows, hand modeling, photoshoots, advertising, and having fun in the modeling industry. Doing domestic modeling keeps me available for my job with seniors which is very gratifying to me.”
During a visit to Jinja, Uganda, Rebecca and her husband John found inspiration to buy fabrics for her clothing line This initiative helps raise funds to bring running water to Jinja, a necessity that was lacking in Rebecca's childhood. In Jinja, locals carry buckets on their heads to meet their day-to-day needs.
I saw the crushing levels of poverty in my local community. Sourcing my fabrics and tailors in Jinja can help provide education, to stop the poverty cycle, there.
She purchased the exquisite fabrics, visualizing the intricate details and explaining them to her tailor who then crafted them to her exacting specifications. She now exclusively sources fabrics from Uganda to fulfill a need, a niche and a new way forward for Ugandans in Jinja
When they had leftover fabrics, she created head pieces (as seen on the blue and gold cover photo)

a glimpse
the making of her
CCelerie Kemble, designer and author of “Island Whimsy” from Rizzoli Publishers; “Black & White (and a Bit in Between)” and “To
Your Taste”, from Clarkson Potter Publishers, has cultivated a portfolio which has included homes and commercial spaces across the United States and the Caribbean, many of which have been featured in Architectural Digest, House Beautiful, Veranda, Elle Decor, Traditional Home, Luxe, Florida Design, Better Homes and Gardens, Country Living, The Wallstreet Journal, the New York Times, and more.
Her compulsion for decoration and the creation of thoughtful interiors stems from her understanding that if you “allow your passion, your imagination, and your surroundings to guide you, the result will be deeply personal and authentic ” Celerie’s commitment to the personality and sentiment of her clients is the secret of how she turns a house into a home Her spirited and quirky, fun-loving nature has garnered successful collaborations for product collections with some of the giants in the interiors industry. She sat down with Ethos to give us a rare glimpse into her creative collaboration process.

In March 2023, High-end furniture makers Woodbridge Furniture and Taylor King Furniture announced a joint collaboration with worldrenowned and award-winning designer, Celerie Kemble. The exclusive furniture collection launched at High Point Market in April, coinciding with L&M’s expansion of their line of Celerie Kemble Rugs.
A New York City designer originally from Palm Beach, Kemble’s design style marries whimsy with elegance for a refined yet approachable look that appeals to traditional and modern audiences alike

Her impressive resume includes partnerships with Schumacher – makers of fabric and wallcoverings, Lane Venture – designers and manufacturers of casual home furnishings and outdoor furniture, Arteriors – leaders in sophisticated lighting and home accessories, Mirror Home – premier manufacturer of decorative mirrors, Classical Elements – one of the finest purveyors of decorative trimmings and drapery hardware, Eastern Accents – designers of luxury bedding, and Chairish – online curators and resellers of home furnishings and art.
This was Woodbridge’s biggest designer launch yet, encompassing over 35 SKUs in two Kemble-crafted signature finishes: “Auden,” a multi-tonal dirty blonde on Cerejeira wood, and “Amsterdam Black,” a lowsheen black with brown rubthrough that yields an antique feel. Kemble’s spirited designs are reflected in the custom hardware, brass details, and sculptural shapes
“The pieces are exactly what you expect from Celerie,” said Cass Key, longtime Kemble fan-girl and Creative Director at Woodbridge Furniture
“They are designed for flexibility in small spaces but have enough personality to hold their own in larger ones too.”
They are playful, with a nod to Palm Beach, but residing proudly in New York City

the
Taylor King’s upholstery offerings are equally vast They include 25 frames and 34 fabrics, 12 of which are exclusive Kemble-inspired prints “The frame and fabric assortment is so unique,” said Tara Rogers, Taylor King’s Vice President of Sales & Merchandising “Celerie has an aesthetic that isn’t easily duplicated
She puts together colors that you wouldn’t think of, and they’re beautiful! Peach, jade, oxide red, dark turquoise and ‘mud’! Her frames are traditional, yet happy and fresh. They’re antique-store finds made comfortable and current with tufting, carved legs, and feminine curves!”
“Her creative brain is exactly that...creative,” Rogers said of Kemble. “She zigs when you think she may zag.” Like the big personality behind the collection, Woodbridge and Taylor King anticipated the new furniture line would bring a fresh look that surprises, inspires, and delights the customers who visit their neighboring showrooms at 200 Steele.
AND LEFT:
KEMBLEINTERIORSCOM
Those who have been fortunate enough to snag a sneak peek of the newest introductions to the line will certainly attest that they live up to Kemble’s mission where good design provides marriage of self and setting.
Her quirky sense of humor and joyful personality thoroughly saturate the creative process for a final product that doles out equal measure of delight and aesthetic appreciation.
Cass Key, Woodbridge: “Working with Celerie for 3 seasons now has been as enjoyable and successful as we hoped it would be. There have been some true surprises, items that exceeded our expectations, like the market’s reception of the Poppy Day bed. We have realized that when we reach to bring those unique visions in her designer mind to fruition, the trade community responds. Her quirky personality keeps the process fun and lighthearted and it's easy to understand how she has built such a thriving design business by pushing the boundaries of what’s expected within the constructs of true professionalism.”
Celerie introduced 12 new pieces in a delightful dark stain finish called Montserrat, inspired by the beloved font that complements everything This marks a distinct shift from her light, stunning color palette to a subtly appealing style, adding a touch of sophistication to various settings. Montserrat blends seamlessly with any finish in her collection Feel free to experiment and pair it with any decor you fancy to witness Celerie Kemble's brilliance While each piece stands out on its own, when combined, they elevate the entire arrangement to a new level that captivates and pleases.
"In life as in design, it is not perfection you should be after. There's beauty in the faded and worn, the well loved, and the sentimental... After all, life has seams. Your home and style should be like a loosely woven fabric of desires, memories, practical, notions, and even compromises."
- Celerie Kemble
The Kemble Shop in Palm Beach is the place to go for unique gifts and stylish items for your home, garden and closet TKS is an extension of Kemble Interiors Inc , the Palm Beach, New York, and London based interior design firm created by Mimi McMakin in 1982, and later expanded by her daughter Celerie Kemble in New York City.
The shop reflects the incredible eye of (the) Kemble buyers, and although the shop doors have always been open, it has been kept as an insider secret.
In 2015 the shop was relaunched with a wider selection of items ranging from lighting, wall décor, furniture, outdoor pieces, clothing and accessories. Unique finds from antique stores, India markets or handmade one of a kind designs, cater to their playful and sophisticated clientele

/ART/ This stunning abstract mural courtesy of our friends at @abendgallery Denver is a powerful reminder of how art can elevate a room's design and bring all the elements together And yes, you absolutely CAN have more than one statement piece together!
I have always believed that art is the soul of a space. The vibrant colors and bold shapes in this piece add a touch of personality and energy, while also creating a focal point that draws the eye in
This is a perfect example of how art can be used to:
Set the mood: Abstract art can evoke a wide range of emotions, from tranquility to excitement.
Define a space: A large-scale mural can help to define a specific area within a room
Connect with your style: Whether you prefer bold and playful or minimalist and serene, there's an abstract artwork out there to match your taste. 3 WAYS:

Personally, I can add, that it HAS changed my life. Designing a daily steam ritual to our family's routine has reduced anxiety, medicinal reliance, stress levels, water usage, and allergy symptoms, while increasing circulation and respiratory ease, and so much more; and it's a perfectly lovely and luxurious experience to relax in a steam shower at home.

Designers and Realtors can team up as referral and event partners to provide top-notch service to luxury customers worldwide Even though there are designers and Realtors who work in both fields, each one provides distinct advantages to the industry As I recognized the areas where they overlapped and the potential benefits of partnering, I decided to develop a special program that would unite these high-end Realtors and designers and present them to our luxury consumers via the Ethos Interactive App.
The idea came to me after speaking with my Legacy Maker sister, Kasandra Henry, who is a luxury Realtor We discussed the advantages of the program and what it could look like for both parties I enlisted the help of Ethos Global Brand Ambassador, Ana Santos of Ana Santos Interiors (based in Chicago, Illinois), while Kasandra brought in CEO, Jody Nelson, of Lysi Bishop, a top-tier luxury real estate firm headquartered in Boise, Idaho.

Recently, Ethos teamed up with Media Partner, Cindy Christi, and Program Directors Kasandra, Ana and Jody to host a Zoom event. The aim was to share our vision, answer questions, and receive feedback on how to make the program a success for all parties involved.
The key takeaway from the event was the significant benefit to our clientele. Through our concierge service, we provide a trusted, vetted network of Principal designers and Realtors working together in pairs around the world.
The Benefits of Design and Realtor Teams for Discerning Clientele

Partner pairs can also benefit designers and Realtors by opening up new opportunities across the US or abroad They can collaborate on luxury events and house tours, which is beneficial for all involved to create galas and fundraisers with maximum community impact
The Ethos Interactive App provides an easy way to find, connect, and direct message, privately, within the platform, away from the overwhelming noise of social media Moreover, VIP subscribers can shop and access (or sign up) for many incredible, exclusive perks through the app

In this ever-changing real estate market, new loans and new programs are continuing to make their appearance.
2024 is considered a buyer’s market nationwide. Due to this, long term and temporary buydowns have become a front runner in conversations between realtors, lenders, buyers, and sellers.
There are many rates and rate buydown options available. For more information on financing your home loan, please contact:

A Temporary buydown for example: 2/1 buydown, is where a buyer utilizes a seller’s credit to prepay a portion of their interest payment for the first two years of their loan
With this program, the seller’s credit will be set aside into an escrow account and used to pay 2% of the buyer’s interest in year one and 1% of interest in year two
This is still considered a fixed rate loan program; it temporarily reduces the interest rate, saving money and lowering the buyer’s monthly payments during the initial buydown term.
is
As a buyer, your payment is lower than the fully amortized payment for the first two years and will never go above your locked interest rate. If the buyer should choose to refinance during this time, any remaining monies from the temporary buydown, that have not been applied toward interest, will be applied as a principal reduction. Unlike a permanent rate buydown where any discount points used to decrease the interest rate will be forfeited upon loan closing
What is the benefit to the seller?
In a buyer’s market the seller may want to give incentives to stay competitive and increase the number of potential buyers Offering a seller credit can help make your home stand out from the rest

Niko Katsantonis is a UX designer and 3D artist specializing in innovative digital art and design. With a focus on creating compelling user experiences and sustainable 3D fashion art, Niko combines technology and creativity to bring unique visions to life He is also a content creator, sharing his expertise and passion for design through engaging digital content
BY NIKO KATSANTONIS
Being raised in Southern California, the extensive freeway commutes and the colorful street art of Los Angeles greatly influenced my early encounters with creativity. Instead of museums or art galleries, my inspiration stemmed from the billboards, building logos, and street signs I observed while sitting in traffic in the backseat of our family car These ordinary visuals served as my initial exposure to branding and design
In middle school, I developed a fascination with sneaker culture I spent hours drawing shoe designs, dreaming of seeing them on store shelves one day. I got resourceful and too embarrassed to tell anyone, I would use my mom ’ s email to send my sketches to Nike, the giant sportswear conglomerate, hoping for feedback. To my surprise, I did end up receiving some automated responses with tips on patenting and prototyping and I viewed this as a amazing acknowledgment that anyone from any background had a shot
Growing up I began to face many roadblocks that would put my creative journey on hold, and it wasn’t until the world really pushed me into a corner, that I was forced to finally be myself, something I think a lot of young creators go through
My journey into digital art and 3D design began with a curiosity for new challenges, and I was determined to never quit. Each new tool and technique I learned opened up more possibilities. The constant evolution of technology kept me engaged and ensured that I never became complacent. I would thrive on seeing others’ creations and pushing my own boundaries of what was possible
Today, as a UX designer and 3D artist, I combine my love for art with technology to create innovative designs. At a recent fashion fundraiser, I showcased my 3D fashion art and pitched my vision for sustainability in the fashion industry Creating virtual prototypes not only saves resources but also reduces waste, making the design process more efficient and environmentally friendly.
My work is driven by a desire to innovate and make a positive impact Through my designs, I aim to inspire others to see the potential in every challenge My story isn’t about overcoming adversity, but about finding inspiration in unexpected places and continuously striving for growth.
It's not just about what I create, but why I create. I’m driven by a passion for innovation and a desire to inspire others.
My journey, shaped by my SoCal upbringing and a relentless pursuit of new challenges, has made me the designer I am today I'm constantly seeking ways to inspire others and build awareness for young creators, encouraging them to pursue their passion despite being told there's no career in art. I want to show them that they can build their own career that is art and design.

3D fashion design revolutionizes the way we approach fashion by allowing designers to create, style, and test multiple variations of a piece without ever needing to purchase or reuse textiles
This innovative approach is particularly beneficial for students and those new to the industry, as it reduces costs and provides a sustainable alternative to traditional methods By minimizing textile waste, 3D fashion design supports a move towards a carbon-neutral industry Moreover, it generates excitement by offering tangible, interactive previews of designs, which can be used to promote items and showcase unique styles effectively

VIRTUAL REALITY TOURS: A GLIMPSE INTO THE FUTURE OF PROPERTY EXPLORATION
This tool for us has been such an integral part in our process that we are now dedicating a whole space to it in our new building We are having a VR lounge for clients to come in and truly have a one of a kind experience in our showroom The lounge is located behind a secret door where the excitement and the immersion begin We like to make it a very special experience and hope to bring the feeling of uniqueness and excitement to the process We talk about what the client sees and we can all visualize it on a large screen as well so that questions can be answered and discussion can happen. It is truly a collaborative experience

1 THE USE OF 3D MODELING BY ELLIE REDDERS INTERIORS ON THE DESIGN OF OUR NEW HOME REALLY HELPED BRING TO LIFE THE 2D DRAWINGS CREATED BY OUR ARCHITECT. BEING ABLE TO “WALK THROUGH” THE HOME PRIOR TO CONSTRUCTION ALLOWED FOR A BETTER FEEL OF ROOM SIZES AND HOW DIFFERENT ELEMENTS OF THE HOME INTERACTED WITH EACH OTHER. THE USE OF 3D MODELING BROUGHT ABOUT MANY “WOULDN’T THIS BE COOL” AND “NOT SURE I LIKE THAT” MOMENTS DURING THE DESIGN STAGE WITH THE HELP OF THIS TECHNOLOGY, IT WAS EXCITING TO SEE FLAT DRAWINGS COME TO LIFE! NOW THAT THE HOME IS ALMOST COMPLETE, IT IS AMAZING JUST HOW MUCH THE END PRODUCT LOOKS LIKE THE 3D DESIGN CREATED EVEN BEFORE WE BROKE GROUND.

2. ONCE WE BEGAN THE PLANNING PROCESS OF BUILDING OUR CUSTOM HOME, WE KNEW WE NEEDED HELP! THE AMOUNT OF QUESTIONS THAT CAME UP WERE THINGS WE HADN’T THOUGHT ABOUT AND WE DID NOT WANT TO MAKE QUICK, UNEDUCATED DECISIONS REGARDING OUR DREAM HOME AFTER OUR FIRST MEETING WITH ELLIE REDDERS AND HER TEAM, WE KNEW WE HAD FOUND THE HELP WE NEEDED. THEY LISTENED TO OUR WANTS, NEEDS AND CONCERNS AND PRESENTED A DETAILED DESIGN PLAN THAT ENCOMPASSED THE FINISHES, FURNISHINGS, WINDOW TREATMENTS, AND ACCESSORIES. THROUGH THE LIFE-LIKE VIRTUAL WALKTHROUGHS, WE COULD GENUINELY SEE OURSELVES WALKING THROUGH EACH ROOM BEFORE A SINGLE BRICK WAS LAID. TO SAY WE WERE AMAZED WOULD BE AN UNDERSTATEMENT! THIS EXPERIENCE WAS KEY IN HELPING US MAKE DECISIONS AND FEEL COMFORTABLE WITH THE DECISIONS WE WERE MAKING. SEEING THE WAY THEIR SUGGESTIONS CAME TOGETHER WAS EXCITING AND ALLOWED US ALL TO BE MORE CREATIVE.

3. WE LOVED THE LEVEL OF DETAIL AND ACCURACY THAT ELLIE REDDERS INTERIORS VIRTUAL REALITY SERVICE OFFERED BECAUSE IT PROVIDED US WITH A HIGHLY REALISTIC AND IMMERSIVE EXPERIENCE. THE VIRTUAL REALITY ALLOWED US TO VISUALIZE OUR FUTURE SPACE WITH INCREDIBLE PRECISION, SHOWCASING EVERY DETAIL, TEXTURE, AND COLOR IN A LIFELIKE MANNER THIS LEVEL OF DETAIL AND ACCURACY ENABLED US TO MAKE INFORMED DECISIONS ABOUT OUR DESIGN CHOICES, WHICH ENSURED THAT WE WOULD BE FULLY SATISFIED WITH THE FINAL RESULT. VIRTUAL REALITY ELIMINATED ANY GUESSWORK AND UNCERTAINTY, GIVING US A CLEAR UNDERSTANDING OF HOW THE DESIGN WOULD LOOK AND FEEL BEFORE ANY PHYSICAL NLY SAVED US TIME AND MONEY BUT ALSO INSTILLED N PROCESS. WELL WORTH THE MONEY!
The use of AI in design has sparked considerable debate across various platforms that showcase AI-generated images Many of these platforms now require digital creators and designers to clearly label their work as AI-enhanced, enabled, imagined, or created At Ethos Design Collective, we advocate for utilizing tools and resources that enable designers to effectively and swiftly convey their design intent, concepts, and iterations to clients We also recognize the importance of identifying the role of AI in these processes.
We compare this to race cars and the skilled drivers who harness their power to showcase their talents Simply knowing how to operate a vehicle doesn’t qualify someone to drive a race car
Similarly, without the right training, education, and expertise, there is a significant learning curve filled with time and expenses that can take years to overcome, and still may not produce results on par with those achieved by a professional designer
While AI can be appreciated for its entertainment value, collaborating with a talented professional is essential when it comes to actual design implementation, as it can elevate your designs to new heights

HOW TO PROPERLY CURATE, PITCH & PROMOTE YOUR AI DESIGNS FOR MAXIMUM PROTECTION
T H E T R U E
With the rise of new technologies, including AI and apps, along with businesses offering their own “interior designers,” many homeowners feel encouraged to undertake large design projects independently, as these companies simplify the process
However, design is just the starting point, and a professional designer meticulously curates it based on numerous factors, such as your specific needs, preferences, aesthetics, lifestyle, desired maintenance, the architecture of your home or business, and the characteristics of your neighborhood Additionally, the designer must consider the investment level, skillfully combining the right elements while understanding industry terminology to effectively manage the project assuming the designer is compensated for this high-value service They are essential partners in bringing your vision to life and are worth every penny spent on both the design and execution. These apps and platforms should serve simply as a place to research what appeals to you and share with your valued professional designer partner on your project
Clients often approach me with images from popular websites, stating, “I want this!” However, after conducting my signature lifestyle consultation and examining the images they've provided (including those for adjacent spaces), a new design concept emerges, revealing common themes Clients may not want the entire design but rather specific elements Trained professional designers excel at recognizing these details, including style, era, and finishes while knowing how to blend different styles harmoniously
It’s also common for clients to desire a historical aesthetic, infused with modern elements that align more closely with their daily lives Professionally trained designers not only understand how to achieve this blend but also have a network of suppliers to fulfill nearly every need, look, and vibe envisioned by the client
One of the true advantages of hiring a designer lies in their extensive toolkit and creativity, allowing them to seamlessly integrate elements that reflect the client's identity rather than their own unless, of course, the client specifically desires the designer's signature style. Throughout the design, a trained designer makes countless swift decisions regarding every aspect of a design, considering its impact on the overall space One misstep can undermine the entire look
Clients frequently approach designers when they feel overwhelmed and trapped in analysis paralysis They may intend to change one aspect of the design but end up making choices that completely divert from their original vision In aviation, it's said that deviating by just 1% can result in landing thousands of miles away from your intended destination
Now, imagine this effect compounded by every decision involved in undertaking a comprehensive home or business project, potentially across multiple stages and phases A professional designer can guide you in determining the ideal sequence for executing design projects tailored to your unique circumstances, helping to maintain harmony in your life. A college professor once mentioned that we often serve as marriage counselors in addition to being designers. While I’m not sure about that, the psychology courses and personal studies in this field have proven invaluable.
Adding to the complexity are the constantly shifting trends, seasons, climates, lighting conditions, product launches, and cultural changes. Leading designers, such as those in the Ethos Design Collective, stay attuned to these factors to ensure they make informed decisions that enhance the longevity of your design and optimize the return on your investment
By leveraging their past experiences, they possess an innate ability to offer multiple alternatives that would otherwise take you countless hours to research
The Process of the Designer
S
Using this AI design I created, inspired by the floral outfit right off the BFW runway I will share the various ways that hiring a pro designer (such as one of our Ethos Elite) adds value, beyond the concept of design for your space
1
2
Trade source every piece of the product, with variable price points
Custom source the pieces that need to be done to suit such as upholstery, fabrics, drapes and artwork, as well as custom lighting options Not all fabrics are suitable for every purpose, durable or desirable
3
Paint selection for YOUR lighting conditions, building orientation, lighting needs, desired moods, settings and more
4
Furniture sourcing and procurement options Designers sourcing from to-the-trade brands typically have a greater variety available at much higher quality for the same price you would find knock down versions in retail
5
Upholstery: Sometimes a piece doesn’t come in the right fabric, so a designer can find the right fabric, hand and upholsterer to have the piece effortlessly created and tailored just for you, adding individual touches such as monograms on kitchen shades, sheets, etc
6
Timing: Coordination of all the pieces coming together to liase with your trades when the pieces are needed Not always in the hands of the designer, as they work with a multitude of sources
7
Back-order, out of stock, damaged returns: Designers have systems in place to quickly and efficiently handle these headaches or have a procurement company that runs in the background to minimize the headaches created by vendor upsets during the project
8
Styling and Decor: If you purchase the styling package from your designer to shop and curate the finishing touches , this is typically separate from the original design, as it can require many hours You can purchase additional blocks of time from your designer, or work out this added service in a way that makes sense for your investment and how your designer prefers to work but it should be added at the end as well as placement of all the pieces, hanging the artwork and pulling it all together, separate from your general construction and contractors on a large renovation
