Collisions: Using two Motion sensors with magnets
Shown without the magnets attached
This investigation works best over small distances.
Attach an end reflector and magnet holder with magnets to the contact end of each cart. To test for an elastic collision use magnets with same poles facing (so they repel each other). For inelastic collisions use either opposite poles facing or attach a thumbtack to one cart with modelling clay and on the other cart use a thumbscrew (TS1) and a cone of modeling clay (so after the collision the carts stick together and move off together).
Position the end reflector as shown
Then fit the magnetic holder over the top and screw both into place using a thumbscrew (TS1)
