FROM THE PRESIDENT I have been involved in producing events in Las Vegas since 1980. During that time, there has been a dramatic evolution in both Las Vegas as a host destination and in the events we host and produce. That evolution is on the cusp of exploding. The addition of T-Mobile Arena, Allegiant Stadium, the renovation and expansion of the Las Vegas Convention Center and the MSG Sphere will usher in an era of unprecedented opportunity for special events.

There are three ways major special events are produced in Las Vegas. The first is through the hotels, whereby they produce events at their properties. The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority has full oversight over the destination’s events and secures all major city-wide events such as the Las Vegas Bowl, the NFL Draft, NFL Pro Bowl and future events like the Super Bowl and College Football Playoff/Championship. The third means is Las Vegas Events. Our role is to secure sustainable events for the destination and ensure their success.

We are proud of our roster of events, both past and present, and the relationship we have built with our event producers. Building solid and lasting relationships with our event producers are paramount.

We both have a vested interest in the long-term success of events. This book will give you an overview of our past success and our plan to continue to build on that success.

We look forward to working with you to bring your event to the destination or continue to work with you on making it bigger and better than ever.

America’s Party

300,000+ ring in the New Year in Vegas Style each year.

Las Vegas has taken the term “ushering in the New Year” to a new level. For the 300,000+ revelers that gather on the Las Vegas Strip each year, America’s Party is as unique as the host city. Held each year since 2000, America’s Party is the largest New Year’s Eve pyrotechnic display in all of North America.

2000 – The first pyrotechnic NYE display is held in Las Vegas.

2004 – Fireworks by Grucci produces the Las Vegas Centennial themed show – Celebrating 100 Years of Neon.

2008 – The fireworks are moved to ground locations for one year.

2009 – America’s Party returns to the rooftops, where it continues today. TributePalooza is held for the first time on Fremont Street.

2013 – The pyrotechnic display includes the ‘count up’ at the Stratosphere for the first time.

2015 – Fireworks by Grucci’s mobile app allows revelers to follow the soundtrack live on the Las Vegas Strip.

2016 – The soundtrack for NYE features famous Las Vegas performers and those we lost that year, including Prince.

2017 – Fremont Street features the worldwide premiere of The Killers’ new music video montage as part of their America’s Party Downtown celebration.

2019 – The 20th anniversary show – The Big 20 – is launched.

Secure Events and Ensure Their Success Ensuring the success of an event is equally important to securing the event. The critical piece of ensuring success is maximizing a return to the event producer.

Experience and Expertise Dale Eeles has been involved in the sports/special event industry in Las Vegas for more than 25 years, starting at UNLV holding various positions supporting their multiple special event facilities – Thomas & Mack Center, Sam Boyd Stadium and Cox Pavilion.

In 2005, Eeles joined Las Vegas Events as Director of Corporate Marketing where he developed relationships with all Las Vegas hotel properties, local and national sponsors.

In 2012, Eeles was promoted to Vice President of Event Development, where he has secured and developed more than two dozen major events including the NBA Summer League, USA Sevens Rugby, USA Basketball training camp and Showcase, the Rock n’ Roll Marathon, Life is Beautiful and many more.

Vegas Owns Summer Basketball And all destination basketball events.

Throughout the 1990’s and 2000’s, youth basketball tournaments exploded in Las Vegas. More than 1,200 teams annually, featuring the top players in the country, competed in front of college and NBA coaches each summer.

Before 2004, the NBA Summer League was played in gyms to less than 1,000 fans. That year, Albert Hall and Warren LeGarie brought it to Las Vegas. The first year it drew less than 5,000. Today, more than 135,000 tickets are sold for the summer showcase.

The WAC and MWC have hosted their annual tournaments in Las Vegas since the late 1990’s. In 2009, they were joined by the WCC and in 2013 the Pac12 Conference joined the fold.

Las Vegas is “Hoops City.” But it did not get there organically. As Las Vegas grew and evolved as an event destination, so did the sophistication of the hotels and how they partner with promoters to enhance the fan experience. Goal!

Vegas becomes a worldwide soccer and rugby destination.

From the All Blacks to “El Tricolor” and Real Madrid to Tigres, Las Vegas has hosted a parade of rugby and soccer events, much with an international flavor.

More than 115,000 youth soccer players and fans make their way to Las Vegas annually for tournaments. The Mayor’s Cup alone hosts just under 1,100 teams.

The USA Sevens International Tournament started the parade of events in 2010, peaking in attendance in 2017 with more than 67,000 attendees over the three days of competition.

International soccer continues to grow. In 2012, Ronaldo and Real Madrid met Santos in the World Football Challenge.

In 2017, the Mexican National Team played in Las Vegas for the first time in a match against Iceland. Sam Boyd Stadium hosted the Leagues Cup Final match in 2019 between Cruz Azul and Tigres UANL. Las Vegas has been limited in the soccer events it can compete for annually. No longer! In the fall of 2020, Las Vegas will open a new state-of-the-art 65,000-seat venue in the heart of Las Vegas. Allegiant Stadium will usher in a new era for international soccer.

Partnering with Las Vegas Events Our experts turned the Wrangler NFR into a citywide extravaganza and can plan the blueprint for growth of any event.

Bo Gardner joined Las Vegas Events in February of 2012 as Vice President of Corporate Marketing.

Bo has 23+ years of sales and marketing experience working with Anheuser-Busch distributors in Ohio and Las Vegas where he worked with several major sporting properties and entertainment venues.

Bo is responsible for all NFR sponsorship sales and fulfillment. In his eight years with LVE he has tripled NFR sponsor revenue. He manages all aspects of Cowboy Christmas, which has doubled in sales revenues and added more than 100,000-square-feet of interactive experiences over the last five years.

In 2018, Bo created and now produces and manages the Junior World Finals, a youth rodeo event that takes place over the ten days of Cowboy Christmas at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

A Festival City

LIB takes over 18 blocks in Downtown Las Vegas.

Las Vegas is a stunning destination for the world’s largest music, athletic and other festivals.

Festivals are a value-driven proposition that provide a diverse range of music, art, entertainment and food.

Vegas did not host a festival until 2005, when Vegoose arrived on Halloween weekend and began a three-year run at Sam Boyd Stadium that also included more than a dozen “After Dark” concerts on the Las Vegas Strip.

Festivals Are Electric Presently, the Electric Daisy Carnival is easily the most sensory and immersive festival in the world. Since 2010, when it moved from Los Angeles, EDC has been held at the only facility large enough to handle the more than 400,000 attendees over three days each year—Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Also, presently, Life is Beautiful is an annual music, food, art and learning experience that takes over 18 city blocks in the middle of downtown Las Vegas. Las Vegas’ own The Killers and Imagine Dragons plus the likes of Stevie Wonder and the Foo Fighters are just a few of more than 400 acts that have played the three-day festival that draws more than 150,000 annually.

In 2012, Las Vegas Events partnered with the Academy of Country Music to create the “Party for a Cause” festival in conjunction with the ACM Awards, which have been hosted in Las Vegas regularly since 2003. Party for a Cause has attracted top acts, including Keith Urban, Florida Georgia Line and Luke Bryan, among other superstars since being created in Las Vegas.

World-class and immersive festivals make Las Vegas home because the city, in itself, is an ongoing festival that operates 24/7 and 365 days a year that creates a diverse array of experiences at and away from the festivals.

Wrangler NFR Is a Citywide Phenomenon Fan engagement and sponsor success is all part of the Wrangler NFR. The world’s greatest rodeo has become a national spectacle at the confluence of sport, entertainment and Western culture.

For ten days in December, fans gather from across the country to witness grit, persistence and grace under pressure. The Wrangler NFR has become a household name in Western culture and the preeminent platform for rodeo.

For those two hours fans witness the top 15 contestants going head-to-head on the best stock for a share of the $10 million purse and the coveted gold buckle. Ninety-five rides are wrapped up in a spectacle that starts with a prayer, the national anthem and a country music star rocking the house.

For the other twenty-two hours, Vegas becomes a fully immersive Western lifestyle festival up and down the Las Vegas Strip and Downtown.

WRANGLER NFR MORE THAN A RODEO Ranching, farming, riding and rodeo is a tough life. Every December, the hay is in the barn and it’s time to let loose.

Since 1985, the NFR Experience has become a fully immersive festival with more than 20 sponsor hotels creating live entertainment and viewing parties wrapped around a custom Western lifestyle experience. The biggest and most prestigious team roping event in the world – the World Series of Team Roping – and the Junior World Finals featuring more than 750 youth contestants are all part of the daily line-up of events.

During the day, more than 750,000-square-feet of the Las Vegas Convention Center is transformed into the two of the most extravagant Western gift shows in the world – Cowboy Christmas and RMEF’s Hunter and Outdoor Christmas Expo. More than 250,000 fans annually sample from 350 of the most unique exhibitors, while also enjoying live music, mingling with NFR contestants and participating in interactive experiences.

Experts Leading the Way At every level, Las Vegas Events is headed up by industry veterans including in marketing and exposure.

Michael Mack has been involved in special events for more than 25 years. He started his career in special events by serving as the media relations director for the Las Vegas Invitational, the PGA Tour event held at TPC at Summerlin.

In 1996, Michael joined R&R Partners full-time and spent the next eight years at the agency as media relations director for the Las Vegas Bowl and the Andre Agassi Grand Slam for Children.

In 2004, Michael was hired as Vice President of Marketing and Communications.

Over the past sixteen years, he has led the marketing efforts for numerous major events including the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo, FEI World Cup Finals, USA Basketball Showcase, America’s Party: Las Vegas New Year and many more.

In particular, he has streamlined the marketing efforts for the National Finals Rodeo and introduced a 360-degree approach. Integral in this approach is the development of initiatives and programs that span the entire year, to more efficiently and effectively communicate to fans and all relevant publics. This includes the development of a complete in-house direct marketing, digital and social outreach program that further promotes the NFR experience. His initiatives have resulted in two-fold growth of fans visiting for the National Finals Rodeo and four consecutive successful FEI World Cup Finals.

Off and Running The Las Vegas Marathon was founded in 1983, but in 2011, with help from Las Vegas Events and new event ownership, the event blossomed into the Las Vegas Rock ‘n Roll Marathon and took its rightful spot “running at night” down the heart of the Las Vegas Strip. The new setting and energy created an unmatched experience for the 46,500 runners, plus fans and sponsors.

The Mint 400 brings the raw power of offroad racing.

Off the Mat Las Vegas has hosted the World Wrestling Championships, Olympic trials and other major amateur wrestling events since the late seventies, including the Las Vegas Wrestling Invitational, the only national collegiate wrestling event in the country. Plus, other events with competitors from 10 years old to Olympic caliber athletes have competed in Las Vegas. A highlight event is the U.S. Open, which qualifies athletes for the world championships and brings more than 5,000 youths to Las Vegas annually.

Las Vegas can now be considered a Bowling Capital, with world-class facilities at South Point Hotel & Casino and other locations. In the next decade, the South Point will host five USBC men’s and women’s championships, bringing hundreds of thousands of bowlers to Las Vegas.

Vegas Goes Country The Wrangler National Finals Rodeo—held in Las Vegas at the Thomas & Mack Center since 1985—is the blueprint for all Las Vegas events and annually attracts more than 250,000 fans and sells out for 10-straight nights. The entire city goes country each December.

Several off-shoot Western lifestyle events have been created surrounding the Wrangler NFR, including the World Series of Team Roping, which attracts nearly 4,000 teams and is rodeo’s richest event with a purse of about $15 million.

Hit the Gas In 2018, the Mint 400, one of the world’s most prestigious off-road races, celebrated its 50th year in Las Vegas and attracts thousands upon thousands of competitors and fans.

Tim Keener has been involved in the development and management of special events for more than 30 years.

A graduate of West Virginia University’s Sport Management program, Tim spent twelve years working for Raycom Sports and ESPN Regional. While at ESPN, Keener was responsible for the oversight of 200+ collegiate events.

In 2001, Tim joined Las Vegas Events as Director of Event & Ticket Operations.

He is responsible for contract management, event development (bidding), event and ticket operations, budget analysis and fulfillment. He plays a key role in the production of the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo, USA Basketball Showcase, FEI World Cup Finals and the America’s Party fireworks display on New Year’s Eve.

A lifelong resident of Southern Nevada, Diana McCall joined Las Vegas Events as Vice President of Finance in the spring of 2018. Working in accounting since the age of fourteen, she has 20 years of experience in finance and accounting in the hotel, entertainment and venue management field.

As the Vice President of Finance, Diana oversees the operations of the accounting, payroll and human resources functions at Las Vegas Events, as well as LVE produced events.

Over the past two years, she has overhauled the operations of the LVE accounting and human resources departments by updating outdated department procedures and policies, introducing new budget templates and streamlining financial statement presentations. In addition, she introduced new accounting and personnel programs to the NFR, which have dramatically modernized the organization.

The destination river city provides a niche special events experience.

Laughlin Size and location make Laughlin a unique event destination. Located on the picturesque banks of the Colorado River at the southern-most tip of Nevada is the resort town of Laughlin.

The city boasts eight resort properties and more than 8,700 rooms and suites.

For the last thirty years, Laughlin has successfully hosted a myriad of town-wide events from exciting off-road racing and action-packed rodeos to major concerts and championship cook-offs.

The Laughlin Tourism Commission serves as the exclusive major special events agency for Laughlin and takes a proactive stance in seeking out and securing new event opportunities. As special events are increasingly vital to securing customers for the destination, LVE works closely with the LTC to evaluate event opportunities and garner support from the hotel properties.

One of the in-roads the destination has made is through the development of the Laughlin Event Center. The state-of-the-art outdoor venue can seat up to 12,000 in a concert-style floorplan. Since its inception, the venue has hosted headlining concerts featuring Luke Bryan, Toby Keith, KISS, Kid Rock, Carrie Underwood, Keith Urban, among many others.
