Working on the stage means hard work, intensive rehearsals and top quality performances. Here at APTA our Performing Arts courses have been designed to give you a real working life experience.

You will take part in workshops and benefit from guest lecturers and choreographers and get the chance to perform in professional venues.

LEVEL 2 PERFORMING AND PRODUCTION ARTS

LEVEL 2 – 1 YEAR WHAT WILL I DO?

This unique vocational course is delivered in hands-on industry situations. As part of a working production company, you will gain first-hand experience of the skills and understanding needed for a career in the wider creative industries. You will study nine units covering a variety of acting, film & TV production, and make-up for live and recorded media skills. This rare blend of learning gives you opportunities to explore a wider range of specialist skills and abilities. This can lead to training and a career in one specialist area – or a wider range of skills and opportunities for other jobs.

YOU NEED:

A performing or production arts level 1 qualification or equivalent, or four GCSEs grade 3.

ACTING FOR STAGE & SCREEN

LEVEL 3 – 2 YEARS WHAT WILL I DO?

This extensive course specialises in both live and screen acting, and offers exciting, challenging, professional and hands-on training to prepare you for a career in theatre, film, and TV acting or related professions. Learning in our theatre and dance studio, as well as on location, you’ll gain awareness of technical/production skills, directing, teaching/facilitation and freelance employment, to make you shine in this competitive industry. This course can be worth the equivalent of three A levels at grade 7/8.

YOU NEED:

Level 2 Diploma in Performance and Production or four GCSEs grade 9-4 including maths and/or English or a merit in a relevant level 2. You also need a strong track record in attendance and punctuality.

WHAT’S NEXT?

You could go on to further training at drama school or university, or you could even start working in the industry. Some students progress to related areas of study/work, including directing, technical theatre, events management, teaching or stage management.

You will progress onto the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Performing Arts or Production Arts.

These courses are a part of APTA. For more information go to page 15. If you don’t have English and maths at GCSE grade 9-4, you will continue to work towards this as part of your main programme of study.

LEVEL 3 – 2 YEARS WHAT WILL I DO?

You will take part in live performances, filmed dance works and learn choreographic principles alongside technique in a variety of dance styles, as well as developing academic skills through project-based work. There will be opportunity to be part of live performances, filmed dance works and to learn choreographic principles alongside technique.

YOU NEED:

Level 2 Diploma in Performance and Production or four GCSEs grade 9-4 including maths and/or English or a merit in a relevant level 2.

WHAT’S NEXT?

You can progress onto our FdA Dance or apply for a programme at another university, drama school or conservatoire.

MUSICAL THEATRE

LEVEL 3 – 2 YEARS WHAT WILL I DO?

Are you keen to pursue a career in performing arts? This course offers an exciting stepping stone in performance training by developing strong skills in singing, dancing and acting. You will learn through intensive rehearsal and production processes from highly trained teachers and often industry professionals. You will have the opportunity to perform at professional venues.
