CONSTRUCTION CERTIFICATE BRICKLAYING PATHWAY

LEVEL 1 - 1 YEAR WHAT WILL I DO?

You will learn basic bricklaying skills, creating a range of brickwork structures, using different bonding methods. You will learn how to lay blocks to line, gauge and level. You will also learn about the construction of cavity walls, safe working practices, quantities and communication. Your practical assessments will be cavity walls which most houses are constructed from, blockwork and internal and external corners.

YOU NEED:

A keen interest in bricklaying and four GCSEs grade 1 or above would be desirable.

WHAT’S NEXT?

You could move on to a level 2 qualification in bricklaying.

DIPLOMA IN BRICKLAYING

LEVEL 2 - 1 YEAR WHAT WILL I DO?

You will learn building methods and construction technology as well as setting out complex masonry structures, solid brickwork structures, thin joint masonry methods, safe working practices, quantities and communication.

YOU NEED:

Bricklaying level 1 or equivalent, and GCSE English and maths, or be working towards Level 2 Functional Skills Maths and/or English.

WHAT’S NEXT?

You could move on to a relevant level 3 qualification or move on to an apprenticeship in bricklaying.

DIPLOMA IN BRICKLAYING

LEVEL 3 - 1 YEAR WHAT WILL I DO?

Expanding on the skills you learned at level 1 and 2, you will look more in depth at building methods and construction technology.

You will learn how to set out complex masonry structures, arch construction, curved walls, safe working practices, quantities and communication.

YOU NEED:

Diploma in Bricklaying Level 2.

WHAT’S NEXT?

You could go on to find work in the building industry, start an apprenticeship, or go on to higher education or further training. Future careers could include bricklaying, site management or setting up your own business in the trades.
