DIPLOMA IN CARING FOR CHILDREN
LEVEL 1 - 1 YEAR WHAT WILL I DO?
Throughout this course you will learn the basics of what it takes to work with babies and children. You will benefit from a combination of theory and practical sessions covering a range of topics including safeguarding, child development, health & safety and lots more. You may even have the opportunity to put all that you learn into practice on a work placement.
YOU NEED: WHAT’S NEXT?
You could progress onto the Diploma for Early Years Practitioner Level 2.
DIPLOMA FOR THE EARLY YEARS PRACTITIONER
LEVEL 2 - 1 YEAR WHAT WILL I DO?
You will develop the skills needed to work with babies and young children through a combination of theory and practical sessions. Covering subjects including child development, safeguarding, health & safety and planning and implementing learning activities. You will also develop effective techniques for interacting with young children. You will apply what you have learned on a work placement of 250 hours minimum in both day nurseries and school settings.
YOU NEED:
A relevant level 1 qualification or four GCSEs at grade 3 or above, including English and maths, one of these should be at GCSE grade 4 or above. You will also need a satisfactory DBS check.
WHAT’S NEXT?
Employment or progression to the Level 3 Childcare T Level.
CHILDCARE T LEVEL: DIPLOMA IN CHILDCARE & EDUCATION*
LEVEL 3 - 2 YEARS WHAT WILL I DO?
During the theory and knowledge element of your course, you will gain an understanding of all aspects of a role as an early years educator or teaching assistant, depending on the specialist pathway that you choose in the second year of study. You will learn and develop your skills in following a range of exciting and innovative teaching and learning methods including projects, presentations, displays and innovative use of VR, bringing your curriculum experience alive.
You will also undertake a high quality, structured and outcome-focused industry placement. This is an integral part of the new T Level programme. The 750 hour industry placement will be aligned to your professional aspirations identified in your career plan and could include up to two employers. High quality industry placements will support you to develop a breadth of new skills to provide you with valuable opportunities to personally progress towards your career goals.
YOU NEED:
Five GCSEs grade 4 or above. These must include a minimum of grade 4 in English and maths and if choosing the assisting learning pathway, science is also required, plus a successful interview.
WHAT’S NEXT?
Progression onto university to study primary education, early childhood studies or other related degree programmes, higher apprenticeships or employment in the education or early years sectors.
