If you are creative, love drawing and you have a passion for design, then we can offer you the chance to explore your interests and find the course that is just right for you. Whether you see yourself as a budding artist or designer, graphic designer, production designer, fashion designer or animator, we can help you develop the skills you need.

ART, DESIGN AND MEDIA

LEVEL 1 - 1 YEAR WHAT WILL I DO?

Our Art, Design and Media course at level 1 can help you try a range of new skills including fine arts, textiles, graphics, sculpture and photography which will help you decide the direction you want to go in. You will take part in trips to various locations including the Yorkshire Sculpture Park and London.

YOU NEED:

An interest in art and design and a good attitude.

WHAT’S NEXT?

You could move on to a relevant level 2 course, going on to specialise in art and design, film production, production arts or performing arts in the future.

DIPLOMA IN ART & DESIGN

LEVEL 2 - 1 YEAR WHAT WILL I DO?

You will carry out a range of projects to develop your skills in drawing and painting, sculpture, textiles and illustration and graphics. You will also visit exhibitions, have a go at location work, see your own work exhibited and complete a work placement.

YOU NEED:

Art & Design Level 1 qualification or equivalent, or four GCSEs grade 3.

WHAT’S NEXT?

Move on to the Level 3 Diploma in Art & Design.

EXTENDED DIPLOMA IN COSTUME AND PRODUCTION DESIGN

LEVEL 3 - 2 YEARS WHAT WILL I DO?

This course is ideal for students who would like to design and create costumes, props and set for film, TV and theatre performances. Working collaboratively with other departments you will work to live assignment briefs, which will allow you to gain an understanding of a career backstage in the performing arts industry. Creativity is a must for this course as you’ll need to research, design, sketch and construct, learning how to use a range of media, materials and techniques to create amazing costumes, sets and props.

YOU NEED:

Art and Design Level 2 or four GCSEs grade 9-4 including maths and/or English or a merit in a relevant level 2.

WHAT’S NEXT?

You could continue your studies on a relevant university course to study costume, set design or model making for film, TV and theatre or find work/an apprenticeship in the industry.

If you don’t have English and maths at GCSE grade 9-4, you will continue to work towards this as part of your main programme of study.

ART & DESIGN EXTENDED DIPLOMA

LEVEL 3 - 2 YEARS WHAT WILL I DO?

If you have always loved art and design, spend time drawing or making things and being creative, then why not make a career out of it. In our Art and Design courses you will learn about all the different career paths in the creative industries, from graphic design, concept art, illustration, interior design, photography, fashion and textiles and many more.

You will learn about a wide range of techniques and processes, and develop your skills as you work towards specialising in the area you feel is best for you. Former students work in a wide range of careers, such as tattooing, art therapy and fashion design.

We have excellent industry links with local businesses and you will benefit from guest speakers from all over the world who work in the design industries. You will take part in work related projects, externally set employer briefs, and experience exhibiting your own work.

YOU NEED:

A Art & Design Level 2 Diploma or four GCSEs grade 9-4, including English and maths.

WHAT’S NEXT?

You could go on to university to study textiles, set design, illustration and many other subjects. You can also move on to a relevant apprenticeship or employment.
