With severe political upheavals and continuous recession, year 2016 was a more difficult year than previous years. Yet, friends of Eastern Social Welfare Society have given us their unwavering support and encouragement despite such unfavorable conditions, and I am deeply grateful for that.

As a social welfare institution, the Eastern Social Welfare Society has been providing continuous services during the past year for children who need the protection of a warm and loving home, Kopino (Korean-Filipino) children in the Philippines who are in need of an education, the elderly of each regional community, as well as for single mothers to raise their kids with confidence and for the disabled to learn independence.

Highlight & Summary

4회 KBS 동행음악회 성료 4번째 동행음악회가 성공적으로 치러졌습

4th Concert with KBS

니다. 코피노 아동들의 교육비 마련을 위해 열린 음악회에는 1,200여명

이 넘는 많은 분들이 참석해 의미를 더했습니다. 수익금 전액은 필리핀

내 앙헬레스와 바기오지역을 중심으로 코피노 아동과 빈민 아동의 교

육지원과 그 가족의 자립지원을 위한 국제개발협력사업에 사용됩니다.

The fourth concert held with KBS was a great success. More than 1,200 people attended the concert to raise funds for the education of Kopino children. All collected funds were used for international development and cooperation, mainly in the cities of Angeles and Baguio in the Philippines, to help fund education for Kopino children and children in poverty, and to help their families achieve independence.

3rd Friendly Soccer Tournament

3회 동방가족 친선축구대회 국내 거주 해외 입양인들의 친목 교류의

개최 했습니다. 해외입양인연대에서 결성한 ‘GOAL

국내입양 가족 ‘동방아빠’, 연예인 축구팀 ‘FC 삐에로’ 등 이 참여해 함께 축구 경기를 펼쳤습니다.

The friendly soccer tournament was held to promote and build friendship among overseas adoptees residing in Korea. With ‘GOAL FC,’ formed by overseas adoptees as the key team, a team formed by Korean adoptive families, as well as a celebrity soccer team ‘FC Pierrot’ etc. participated in the tournament.

Seminar on Policies for Single Mothers in Korea & Japan

발달을 지원하기 위해 지난 해 개소한 ‘이스턴데이케어센터’가 2주년을 맞았습니다. 2015년에 실시한 아동발달검사(K-CDI)에서 우리나라 아 동의 평균에 못 미치는 평가를 받았던 아이들은 1년 후 평균 발달 점수 가 5점 향상되는 성과를 거두었습니다.

Eastern Daycare Center, which opened last year to support the healthy and balanced growth and development of children waiting adoption, celebrated its 2nd anniversary. Children who scored below average in the K-CDI (Korean Child Development Inventory) conducted in 2015 achieved a 5-point increase in their average development score after a year.

입양인식개선 거리캠페인 신촌 연세로에서 입양인식개선 캠페인이 진 행되었습니다. 투게더 서포터즈 학생들은 입양에 대해 많은 분들이 관 심 가져주길 기대하며 홍보에 적극적으로 나섰습니다.

A campaign to increase awareness on adoption was held at Yeonsero in Sinchon. Students from Together Supporters were actively involved in promoting awareness in hope that more people will gain interest in adoption.

Supported by the Community Chest of Korea and the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family, a seminar on policies for single mothers in Korea and Japan was held at the Seoul Chamber of Commerce and Industry. It was attended by the staff of 21 organizations participating in the single mothers’ support project ‘Happy Mom,’ single moms, as well as personnel from relevant organizations.

Seodaemun Honorary Citizen Award for Overseas Adoptees

부모로써 이스턴어린이합창단을 후원하고 입 양가족의 화합을 위해 노력해 온 조중기 대한 감정평가법인 대표와 21년간

A celebration to commemorate the 11th anniversary of adoption day was held. In recognition of their contribution to adoption, prizes were awarded to Jungki, Cho, CEO of Korea Appraisal Co., Ltd. for his support as an adoptive parent to the Eastern Children’s Choir and his efforts to promote harmony among adoptive families, as well as to Mi-sook, Hwang, current secretary of the adoption department who has worked in the organization for 21 years.

In conjunction with the Seodaemun-gu Office, an award ceremony was held to give out the Seodaemun Honorary Citizen Award to16 overseas adoptees. The overseas adoptees, who were adopted through the Eastern Social Welfare Society, received honorary citizen awards and also spent meaningful time traveling to various places of interest in Korea.

The logo for Eastern Social Welfare Society has changed. The logo of the Eastern Social Welfare Society, which symbolizes a mother holding her child, gives off a sense of warmth and is now more eye-catching in a brighter color than the previous logo.

We expressed gratitude to our volunteers who have worked hard for the year of 2016, and we had an enjoyable and meaningful time sharing and discussing ideas on how to improve volunteer activities.

Happy Mom Market to Improve Single Mother Awareness

The Happy Mom Market was co-organized with Hug In as a single motherawareness enhancement campaign. The purpose of this event was to raise social awareness on single mothers and to securemarketability. Other than people from the relevantinstitutions, many citizens alsoparticipated inthismean ingful event.

동방사회복지회는 아이들을 사랑으로 안전하게 보호하고

양육할 수 있는 건강한 부모, 행복한 가정을 찾아주고 있습

니다. 또한 가정으로 보내는 것으로 끝내지 않고, 입양 가정

의 적응을 돕기 위한 서비스와 양육 정보를 제공하며, 오랜

시간 전문가로 일한 역량을 발휘해 상담과 심리치료 서비

스를 진행합니다. 해외입양인을 위한 모국 방문 사업과 모

국어 연수 지원 및 문화체험 기회 제공, 친가족 찾기 사업

과 입양 정보 열람 서비스를 제공해 해외입양인들의 정체

성 확립에 힘쓰고 있습니다.

At Eastern Social Welfare Society, we help to find healthy parents and happy families who can safely protect and nurture children with love. We also offer parenting information and services to help adoptive families adapt. We carry out counseling and psychotherapy services by employing our years of experience as a specialist in this field. Presently, we are working to help overseas adoptees establish their identity by providing them with opportunities to visit their native country, learn their more language, Korean and experience their native culture. We also help them search for their biological families and go through information regarding their adoption with them.

Homeland Visit

매년 여름방학 기간에 해외로 입양된 입양인들

이 가족들과 함께 한국을 방문해 한국의 문화와

전통을 배우고 친가족과 위탁모와 만나는 시간

을 갖습니다. 이런 프로그램을 통해 해외입양인

들의 자아 정체성 확립과 모국에 대해 긍정적으

로 인식할 수 있도록 돕습니다.

Adoptees who have been adopted overseas visit Korea during summer vacation every year with their adoptive families. During these visits, they learn about traditional Korean culture as their foster parents and biological families spend some time together. Such programs help overseas adoptees establish their own identity and gain a positive view of their native country.

Supporting the selfindependence of mothers who brave the prejudices of the world and raise their child with confidence.

미혼양육모지원사업은 준비되지 않은 임신과 출산으로 심

리적, 경제적 불안요소인 주거문제해결과 자립을 지원하

는 미혼모자공동생활가정, 자신의 적성을 살려 취업하여

경제적으로 자립할 수 있도록 지원하는 해피맘 사업, 미혼

양육모의 전문상담 및 사례관리, 전문직업교육과 취업지원

을 돕는 나이스싱글마더 사업이 있습니다. 이런 사업들을

통해 미혼양육모가 더욱 당당하게 아이를 키우며 주체적인 삶을 살 수 있도록 합니다.

Support for single mothers includes Home for Single Parent Families, which promotes self-independence and provides a solution for housing, a factor of psychological and economic distress due to unexpected pregnancy and childbirth, Happy Mom project, which encourages financial independence in single mothers by helping them find the right job, as well as Nice Single Mother project which offers professional counseling and care, specialized vocational training and employment support for single mothers. Through help from these projects, single mothers may lead more independent lives and raise their child with confidence.

The Happy Mom project lays the foundation for financial independence by offering systematic support such as vocational training, parent coaching, childcare support and job coaching services at 2 participating cooperative associations, 9 independent businesses and 17 implementing institutes. <국제개발협력사업>

Helping Kopino children and poor local children to grow with the improvement in learning environment and quality education.

<International Development and Cooperation> We help Kopino, half-korean and half-philippine children and poor local children in the Philippines, who are unable to receive proper care and education due to poverty and social constraints, to develop into healthy members of their community by offering them quality education, more learning opportunities, and a continuous learning environment. Support projects to improve the environment and promote the growth of Kopino children and poor children in the Philippines are currently ongoing. We are working to help the families of these children achieve independence. From year 2017, a project in Sri Lanka willcommence and it is expected to gradually expand.

극적인 태도와 참여를 유도하고 있습니다. 이 외에도 팜팜동방데이케어센터, 말라바냐스동방데이케어센터, 암식동방데이케어센터, 꿋꿋동방데 이케어센터가 필리핀 앙헬레스 지역에서 운영되고 있습니다.

Eastern Social Welfare Society has established children’s centers in the provinces of Angeles and Baguio in the Philippines. We provide educational support for Kopino children and poor local children, as well as help their families achieve financial independence. The Korean language classes held at the children’s centers in Angeles and Baguio encourage students to display their abilities, develop positive attitudes and practice active participation through Korean language education programs. In addition, we operate the Pam Pam Daycare Center, Malabanias Eastern Daycare Center, Amsik Eastern Daycare Center, and Kut-kut Eastern Daycare Center within the province of Angeles.

Creating a warm community hand in hand with local residents.

동방사회복지회는 서대문구로부터 지역복지관인 서대문종

합사회복지관을 위탁 받아 24년간 운영하고 있습니다. 아동

과 가족의 건강한 성장을 지향하고 가족 생애 주기별 교육

을 정례화하며, 서로 돕고 살아가는 마을을 만들고 활기차

고 건강한 노인 문화로 어르신들의 당당한 삶을 위해 언제

나 최선을 다하고 있습니다. 또한, 선도적인 사회복지관 사

례관리 모델을 발굴하고 체계적으로 운영함으로써 사례관 리 전문기관의 역할을 수행하고 있습니다.

Comissioned by the Seodaemun district, Eastern Social Welfare Society has been running a multi social services center, Seodaemun Social Welfare Center, for 24 years. We organize regular educational programs for each stage of the family life to promote healthy growth in children and families, as well as enhance the lives of the elderly by creating a mutually supportive community and a healthy living culture for them. Also, we play our part as a specialized institute for case management through systematic operation and the identification of leading case management models for social welfare centers.

To all our volunteers, who put the virtue of sharing into action, taking on dirty and laborious tasks ranging from the packaging of goods to be delivered to foster homes, babysitting, janitorial work at Eastern Babies Home, laundry service to cleaning toys etc., we are always grateful to all of you for lending a warm helping hand at Eastern Social Welfare Society.

To create a better life for children, the disabled, and single mothers, many companies have in the year of 2016 shown love for this underprivileged group through absolute and much-needed practical support. Together with its corporate partners, Eastern Social Welfare Society will, in future, continue to carry out meaningful projects which will change the world for the better.

많은 임직원들이 입양이라는 사회문제에 대해 안타까운 마음을 가지고 함께 고민하게 되었습니다. 앞으로도 “입양을 기다리는

아동들을 위한 사랑가득 선물주머니 만들기” 캠페인과 친한사이 봉사단의 “BE THE PARENTS” 일일 부모 되어주기 프로그램을 통해서 도움의 손길이 필요한 아동들에게 사랑을 전하고, 동방사 회복지회와 함께 아동들이 안전하게 성장할 수 있는 사회를 만들 기 위해 함께 노력할 것입니다.

Since our company began sponsoring children awaiting adoption, many employees including myself have been saddened and troubled by this social problem. Through programs such as ‘BE THE PARENTS,’ where volunteers become parents for the day, as well as the ‘Create a bagful of love for children awaiting adoption’ campaign, we will continue to pass on love to children who need a helping hand. Together with Eastern Social Welfare Society, we will work hard to create a society where children can safely grow up in.

클럽인 포르쉐클럽코리아는 포르쉐 오너들이 모

인 비영리단체로 소외된 이웃들을 돕기 위한 지속

적인 사회공헌활동을 이어가고 있습니다. 2015

년에 이어 2회째 포르쉐클럽코리아 회원분들의

송년회 모금행사를 통해 마련된 후원금을 전달했

습니다. 특허정보진흥센터 2013년 첫 인연이 되어 본회와 함께 지속적인 사 회공헌을 하겠다는 협약으로 월 1회 아기 돌보미 봉사활동을 비롯한 위탁가정 물품 포장 봉사활동 을 진행하고 있는 특허정보진흥센터에서 연말을 맞이하여 후원금을 전달했습니다. ㈜정환

Porsche Club Korea, the official Porsche club of Korea recognized by the Porsche headquarters in Germany, is a nonprofit group created by Porsche car owners who have made continuous social contributions to help the underprivileged. This is the second time since 2015 that Porsche Club Korea has made donations using funds raised at year-end parties for club members

Receiving year-end donations from the Patent Information Promotion Center which has engaged in volunteer activities such as the packaging of goods for foster homes and monthly babysitting activities according to an agreement to carry out social contributions together since our first encounter in 2013.

원을 위해 후원을 해 온 ㈜정환은 레이퀸 자외선 살균 젖병소독기와 유아욕조 등 5천만원에 해당 하는 물품을 기부했습니다. 이 물품들은 입양대 기아동들이 보호되고 있는 위탁가정에 전달되었 습니다.

Jung Hwan Co., LTD., who has been offering support to children awaiting adoption since the conclusion of an agreement pledging to engage in social contribution activities, donated 50 million won worth of items such as RAYQUEEN UV sterilizers and baby bath tubs etc. These items were given to foster homes where children awaiting adoption will be protected.

나눔을 전할 수 있어서 기쁩니다. 직원들이 아기손수건 만들기, 아기 돌보미 봉사활동을 통해 동방사회복지회를 더 알고 아이들

에게 관심을 갖게 될 때 더욱 보람을 느낍니다. 앞으로도 동방사 회복지회와 더 나은 미래를 위해서 고민하겠습니다.

We are delighted for the opportunity to offer warmth through Eastern Social Welfare Society to children awaiting adoption. It is even more rewarding to see employees gain interest and awareness about Eastern Social Welfare Society and its operations through the making of baby handkerchiefs and babysitting activities. We will continue working with Eastern Social Welfare Society to create a better future.

It was really meaningful to harvest the love of customers who participated in the Starbucks milk love latte campaign and deliver milk powder to children awaiting new homes. In addition, as our partners engage in regular babysitting activities, I realized that these children needed much help and I am really glad that Starbucks could at least provide some support in this area.

Having built a relationship with children through the ‘Furniture creation for happiness and sharing’ event in 2012, SK Networkshas been actively organizing volunteer activities for children awaiting adoption during itsweekly visits to Eastern Social Welfare Society. A special donation was received during the Korean family month.

Petrochemical Corporation created a ‘box for mothers’ containing necessary supplies for children awaiting adoption. The company regularly makes donations in support of the Eastern Social Welfare Society.

Hyundai Rotem has carried out social contribution activities in the Philippines after being awarded a 530 billion won electric car project in the region. Volunteer activities such as renovation support and food services have been provided at Eastern Daycare Center located in the province of Angeles, Philippines.
