Steelcase Neocon Showrooms 2019 Steelcase Inc. // Spring 2019 By focusing on the idea - “Me within We.” Steelcase created a home that navigates a fast-paced flow, bouncing between team members, iterating and improving on each other’s ideas, which is currently missing in our workplaces. My main role in this project was to conduct and explore materials, furnishings, and accessories in the showroom. Sketchup, AutoCAD, Rhino

POPPIN’ BY

Poppin’ By University of Cincinnati & AvorKo // Summer 2020 A group project in collaboration with AvorKo Virtual Innovation Studio, designing an outdoor plaza with a food kiosk for a Hollywood-based film studio. The three core design concepts are West Coast modern, Alta Californian, and Old Hollywood glamour. The food programming for this outdoor plaza would be centered around a snack kiosk, serving gourmet popcorn. It also serves a secondary function, having flexibility to become a performance space as needed. This offers an entertaining, nostalgic food experience that brings people together. The goal of this program is to not only attract employees to this area, but also to foster deeper conversations, shared experiences, and a spirit of camaraderie. SketchUp, Podium, Photoshop, Illustrator

2019 IIDA Product Runway Cincinnati ChangeUp Inc. // Fall 2019 The traditional bearded lady is a strange and irrational symbol in people’s eyes. But our concept is to show the self-confidence and beauty that the bearded lady originally has, which haven’t been discovered by people. The long beard with gradient colors emphasizes its beauty, while contrasting with the black garment. Elements of rivets and punk also add to this self-controlled aura. All of the imperfect designs are intentional, implying that she doesn’t care about the eyes of the world, and being herself is the most beautiful existence. My main role in this project was assisting concept development and making the garment with the rest of the team.

THE HEALING WORLD

The Healing World University of Cincinnati // Spring 2020 The aim of this project is to redesign Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, and the design concept is focused on the “healing” aspect of the space. The sky and the universe are an unknown imaginary world for children, which exist in nature and surround/protect us. More importantly, it has a “healing” aspect. In a sense, the existence of the hospital is to heal and protect us, which coincides with the concept of the sky. Since the audience of this place is mostly children, the concept of the sky can add some fun and imagination to distract children’s attention and reduce their fear of the hospital, also protects them while bringing them happiness. Sketchup, Photoshop, Illustrator

WORKPLACE EXPERIENCE

Workplace Experience University of Cincinnati // Summer 2019 A workplace that felt cool, inspired, and simple in order to attract brands that align with this aesthetic. The entire space mostly used cool materials like concrete and metal. Also focused on the contrast between light and dark to create interesting spaces but still keep it simple. Sketchup, Photoshop

BODY SPATIAL

Body Spatial University of Cincinnati // Summer 2019 From body prosthetic to body spatial, my idea was to create an enclosed space that kept people separate but connect to the world by altering people’s vision and hearing. When people are experiencing the space, they can only see light and color, and hearing their own echo inside. People can also feel the variation of sound and light through the compression and release of the space.

LIGHTING

Lighting University of Cincinnati // Summer 2019 The aim of the piece is to explore opacity, and how light affects that in various fabrics. Two types of sheer fabrics were chosen - crinoline and poly chiffon - from a range of light testing. The idea became a multi faceted and interactive sculpture with alternating voyeuristic properties. Flip a switch, and one could witness a person walking through the tunnel of fabric, seemingly in isolation. Flip the switch back, and a person could view the surrounding onlookers from their hiding spot in the fabric tunnels. The way the two fabrics reacted differently with movement and the breeze coming into the space, creating an ongoing ethereal moment with which to interact. Rhino, Photoshop

POETRY FOUNDATION

Poetry Foundation University of Cincinnati // Fall 2018 This was a program project within an existing site of OTR. My intent was to connect the site, especially the Washington Park across the street, to the building, which also forms my Parti and circulation. The significance contrast of the irregular shape pushed into the regular shape is to give people a concept of interaction. Every part of the spaces is isolated but also connected with the Parti in some ways. Rhino, V-ray, Photoshop

SN AKE FOLLY

Snake Folly University of Cincinnati // Spring 2018 By dividing SAID students into 16 groups, each group was responsible for designing one square of the snake. The overall design idea of the snake folly was to transform volume to plan to line on both sides. Our team designed it to be half blocked and half open, including a few lines as an element to let the overall transformation flow more naturally. My main role in the team was to calculate the materials, figure out the joints, and help construct. Sketchup, Rhino, Photoshop

INSERTION

Insertion University of Cincinnati // Spring 2018 Design an “insertion” into the existing farbic of the Alms Building. The insertion part included a new entry threshold to assess the building and 2 gallery spaces. From the beginning, started by observing the Alms Building and develop my ideas from three obstructions: atmosphere, context, and precedent. The direction for my final was the context idea, combining with the atmosphere. By dividing these triangles and put them on different levels, a rotation was applied to the top-right triangle so the insertion parts and the original Alms Building merged pretty well.
