Ristna lighthouse The 30-metre lighthouse – initially white, now bright red – is located on the northern peninsula of Ristna. Also known as the Lower Dagerort, it is close to Kõpu’s lighthouse, which is known as the Upper Dagerort. The latter was built on an elevation in the middle of a swamp, which explains why it is sometimes engulfed in mist. Ristna was built so ships sailing past the Hiiu

shelf could be supported from the west. The spectacular lighthouse was ordered in 1873 from France and assembled the following year from components manufactured in Paris. This summer, on 26 July, Ristna lighthouse will celebrate its 140th anniversary with an event that will delight lighthouse fans young and old. There will also be a lighthouse exhibition and a programme of adventure games. Open from 1 May until 15 September, Tuesday through Sunday from 10am to 7pm (book for other times).
