LOCATED WITHIN THE TRADE DISTRICT OF DOWNTOWN BLOOMINGTON, INDIANA, IS A MID-RISE PRO-JECT I TITLED “SHOWERS-TECH HUB”. THE PROJECT ALLUDES TO THE RICH HISTORICAL CONTEXT OF THE SITE, AROUND THE PROPOSED SITE, EXISTING BUILDINGS ARE BEING REPURPOSED FOR CREATIVE USE SUCH AS OFFICES, CRAFT STATIONS; MAKING THE NEW PROPOSAL A HUB BETWEEN THE NORTH AND SOUTH AXIS OF THE TRADE DISTRICT.
THE PROJECT INCORPORATES TECHNOLOGY IN THE TYPE OF ACCESS CONTROL, THE USE OF SEN-SORS TO REDUCE REDUNDANCY IN BUILDING OPERATIONS AS WELL AS LIGHT POLLUTION, ADOPTS PASSIVE HEAT EXCHANGE STRATEGIES- PAYING ATTENTION TO MATERIAL, THE HEALTH OF THE PROPOSED BUILDING OCCUPANTS, AS WELL AS PROFFERING AESTHETICS FACADE WITH SHADING DEVICES CRAFTED FROM THE SUN PATH AND RADIATION ANALYSIS OF THE AREA.

THE SITE IS NEXT TO NOBLIT PARK, I THOUGHT OF WAYS TO MAKE MY PROPOSAL A HABITAT OF NATURE IN A WAY THAT CONTRIBUTES TO QUALITY OF LIFE OF THE USERS, PRESERVE THE MICRO CLIMATE AND BE ULTIMATELY ATTRACTIVE AND COMPLEMENTARY TO ITS ENVIRONMENT.
TO ARCHIVE THIS, KENGO KUMA ECOFRIENDLY HOTEL DESIGN AT PARIS WAS A PRECEDENT STUDY AMONGST OTHERS. PLEASANT EXPERIENCE FOR THE USER AND OPEN INVITATION TO THE PUBLIC WAS A KEY FACTOR. DUE TO THE FLOOD CONSTRAINS THE SITE WAS ELEVATED TO 628’ WHILE ROADS ARE AT 622’.
THIS OPPORTUNITY GAVE ROOM FOR VIEWS TO BE ACHIEVED ON ALL SIDES AS THE PROJECT MIMICS THE SEMBLANCE OF TREES TO THE WEST WHICH THEN TRANSITIONS GRADUALLY INTO LIMESTONE WALLS AS YOU GO EASTWARDS. EASEMENTS HAVE NO PERMANENT CONSTRUCTION LABEL PER ORDIANCE, BUT THESE BECAME A PLATFORM FOR RECREATION, AND EXISTING STORAGE BUIDINGS INTO GARDEN AND OXYGEN SUPPLY TANKS.

THE TEMPLE IS TO BE SEEN AS AN EXTENSION TO I.M PEI’S SCHEME OF CREATING A COHESIVE CIVIC SPACE WITHIN COLUMBUS ALONG FRANKLIN, 4TH & 5TH STREET , WHICH WE ARE NOW REFERRING TO AS A CAMPUS. THE PROJECT RESPONDED TO THE ETHOS THAT WAS ESTABLISHED BY OUR PREDECESSORS BY FOLLOWING THE COMMON LANGUAGE OF SUNKEN COURTYARDS, ASYMMETRY, AND DUALITY—A VOCABULARY PREVALENT IN HINDU CULTURE. THE BUILDING IS TO CONTRIBUTE TO THE OVERALL SENSE OF PLACE OF THIS AREA, WHILE STILL PROVIDING A SPACE FOR THE USERS OF THE TEMPLE TO ESCAPE THE TERRESTRIAL REALM INTO THE DOMAIN OF THE CELESTIAL—FINDING IDENTITY WITHIN CONFORMITY.
THE SUCCESS OF THIS PROJECT WAS A 4TH SEMESTER LONG DESIGN COLLABORATION BETWEEN I AND ALLAMEL, GUILLAUME, OF WHICH ALL THE IMAGES PRESENTED IN THIS PORTFOLIO HAS MY 90% INPUTES. IN LIGHT OF THIS, THE DESIGN TACKLES THE NEED TO BE A SEASONAL STRUCTURE AND ALSO INCORPORATE WEATHER ELEMENTS BY PROPOSING A CANOPY STRUCTURE WITH CURVES MIMICKING THE FLOW OF THE TRESS. THE CHOICE OF MATERIAL HERE IS INFLATABLES- POLYESTER FABRIC PRINTED WITH PHOTO-VOLTAIC CELLS. THIS HELPS THE STRUCTURE POWER THEMSELVES THUS ELIMINATING THE ELECTRIC POLES ON SITE. THIS CANOPY PROVIDES AN EPISODIC EXPERIENCE THROUGH THE UNDULATION OF THE RIBS, THE SIDEWAYS SHIFTS OF THE BAYS, AND THE VERTICAL/HORIZONTAL MOVEMENT OF THE CANOPY CURVES.
THE TRANSITION POINTS ALONG THE CURVES WERE TRANSPARENT, GIVING LIGHT RAYS INTO THE BAYS, THE TREE TRUNKS ARE EQUALLY ACCOMMODATED BY THE FABRIC MATERIAL AT POINTS OF INTERSECTIONS, MAKING THE FARMERS AND BUYERS HAVE A SENSE OF AN ACTUAL FARM. THIS REALLY IS A POETIC EXPERIENCE IN ITSELF.

BRIEF SUMMARY: THE PROJECT REQUIRED THE CONSTRUCTION OF A NEW GARAGE PARKING FOR BIGGER TRUCKS, ALONG SIDE IS THE PROVISON OF AN ADMINISTRATIVE BUILDING AS WELL AS A TRUCK WASH AREA.
ROLE IN THE PROJECT-
1. REDUCE THE SQUARE FOOTAGE OF THE OFFICE BUILDING TO THE ADJUSTMENTS MADE BY THE CLIENT
2. GENERATE WORKING DRAWINGS AND DETAILS BASED ON CODE
3. MEET WITH OTHER STAKE HOLDERS ON THE PROJECT, MAKE ADJUSTMENTS AND CONSOLIDATE DRAWIINGS FROM OTHER CONSULTANTS ON THE PROJECT.

A- SERVED AS THE SUPERVISING ARCHITECT FOR THE SITE FROM FOUNDATION TO FINISHES IN COMPANY OF ENGR. SOLA T. THE SITE ENGINEER (STRUCTURAL ENGINEER) AND OTHER PROFESSIONALS, ARCHITECTS INCLUSIVE.
B- WORKED ON ALL THE TWO DIMENTIONAL DRAWINGS AS REVISED ON SITE AND MODIFICATION REVIEWS PER UNIT BASED ON CLIENTS NEEDS.
C- PRODUCED THE WORKING DRAWINGS
D- WORKED ON SOME OF THE THREE DIMENTIONAL DRAWINGS
