Roommate Abode & Community Kitchen Arch 3231 Aman Fall 2025
This project explores community housing and how, as students, we can collaborate in groups to design together. As a member of my team, I designed the community kitchen for up to three families (8 people) and the roommate abode with sleeping quarters for three people. We built the structure on a beautiful natural site, the Franklin Parker Preserve, which inspired me to apply principles of organic geometry. Peter and Alison Smithson’s House of the Future (1956) inspired my use of curved walls and furniture. I incorporated awning windows and sliding doors to support cross-ventilation. North and west-facing windows bring in natural daylight and cast warm evening light during dinnertime. I used steps to create distinct zones within the design. Throughout the project, organic geometry unifies the rooms and furniture, reinforcing my design language. Location: Typology: Franklin Parker Preserve Communal Housing & Kitchen Area: 1,600sq-ft
