Swimming with Medical Conditions The Lifesaving Society recognises that those with serious medical conditions (especially seizure disorders) are at a greater risk of drowning. The Essex Recreation Complex asks those with seizure disorders or other serious medical conditions are always accompanied and supervised by someone who is familiar with their condition. Swimmers with seizure disorders should always wear a lifejacket or PFD, which are free to use.

Changeroom and Locker Information - Please remember to protect your valuables at all times. Locker keys are available for rent at the ERC for only $1.00 as well as a $4.00 deposit. The Town of Essex is not responsible for lost, stolen or damaged belongings. - Universal change rooms available for all users. Support Persons Support person is defined as another person who accompanies a person with a disability in order to help him or her with communication, mobility, personal care, medical needs, or with access to goods or services. If participation in the program is necessary, support persons will not be charged an admission fee. Please be aware that in case of emergency, support persons may be asked to assist wherever needed. Accessible Features at the Essex Rec Complex: - Easy ladder into lap pool - Poolside lift into lap pool (max 180 pounds) - Submerged ramp into leisure pool - Railings on stairs into training pool - Submerged therapy bars in training pool - Submergible pool wheelchair - Tilting shower/commode wheelchair - Private accessible washroom with shower, change table, and transportable ceiling lift General Pool Information - Please shower with soap and water before you enter the pool. - Food and drinks in glass containers are not allowed on deck or in the viewing area. - Children in diapers must wear plastic pants (snug to leg) or swim diapers when entering the pool. Washable or disposable diapers are available for purchase. - Please have children visit the washroom and shower before entering the pool. - Proper swimwear required in the pool. T-shirts, cover ups and other clothing are not allowed. - Please do not bring floatation bathing suits, water wings, etc. PFDs are available for use. - Spectators must remain in the viewing area during all swims. - No camera use in the washrooms or change rooms. - To use the Training pool, those under 12 years old must have a parent or guardian with them in the water. Pool Closures The pool may close unexpectedly due to a pool fouling, power failure, mechanical or maintenance problem. If this should occur during lessons, instructors will use the time on land to focus on water safety.
