Danny Green Fund Have Big Hopes for the New Year!

The Danny Green Fund would like to wish our supporters a very Happy New Year.

On Christmas Eve we delivered the gifts that were very kindly donated to the children staying in Great Ormond Street Hospital, Basildon Hospital, Southend Hospital and Little Havens. We were overwhelmed once again by the huge response that we have received from the local community and would like to thank everyone who donated a present. The donated gifts really made a difference to the children that received them and to their families to know that others were thinking of them at this festive time of year.

Going into 2015 we will continue to support children suffering from the devastating effects of Brain Tumours and Posterior Fossa Syndrome and their families. We hope that with continued support from The Danny Green Fund that more children will be given the opportunity to receive physiotherapy,

hydrotherapy or horse riding sessions to help their core strength, balance and ataxia to hopefully enable them to reach their goal of walking independently. We have seen amazing progress in so many of the children that we have been fortunate to help so far and have met some truly inspirational children who with strength and determination are overcoming the difficulties they face as a result of PFS. They are looking at a brighter future thanks to everyone who has helped raise funds for The Danny Green Fund. In 2015 we will also be working closely with Brain Tumour Research to fund further research into finding a cure if not safer, less harsh treatments which are less toxic for the children who are sadly diagnosed with brain cancer.

We wish you all a happy and healthy 2015 with love from everyone at The Danny Green Fund and thank you for supporting our charity.

Butterscotch Pudding • • • • • • •

3 tbsp salted butter ¾ cup packed dark brown sugar 1 cup heavy cream 2 cups milk ⅓ cup cornstarch ¼ tsp salt 2 large egg yolks

• 2 tsp vanilla extract FOR TOPPING: • ¾ cup cold heavy cream • 3 tbsp granulated sugar • ½ tsp vanilla extract • 1 Cadbury Crunchie Bar, Crushed

Melt butter in a saucepan, then add brown sugar and stir until all brown sugar is wet-looking. Stop stirring, and let the mixture bubble and caramelize until it becomes liquid (rather than like thick wet sand) and it smells nutty and caramelly. This should take about 5-7 minutes.

Remove from heat and whisk in 1 cup of heavy cream. Set aside.

In a large saucepan off of heat, whisk together milk, cornstarch and salt. Place over medium-high heat and cook, stirring constantly, until mixture comes to a boil. Reduce heat to low and whisk in butterscotch.

In a glass measuring cup, beat yolks with a fork. In a very slow, steady stream, pour about 1 cup of hot pudding mixture into the yolks, whisking constantly. Whisk yolk mixture back into remaining pudding and stir over medium-low heat until it thickens and a few sputtering bubbles appear at the surface, about 5 minutes.

Transfer pudding to a large bowl (pressing it through a fine-meshed sieve if it looks curdled at all). Stir in scotch and 2 tsp vanilla extract.

Cover with plastic wrap, pressing the wrap directly onto the surface of the pudding, and refrigerate until chilled, at least 3 hours or up to 24 hours in advance.

Just before serving, beat cream on high speed of an electric mixer until soft peaks form. Beat in sugar and vanilla extract.

Top individual servings of pudding with whipped cream, sprinkle with toffee crumbles and serve.

The Befriending Scheme: A tale of two artists After living abroad for the past 24 years John decided to become a Volunteer Befriender.

He wanted to help out in his local community and meet new people at the same time.

John is a keen artist . Taking in to

George is also a keen painter and likes to use watercolours to paint mainly birds and flowers. John started visiting George in March of this year and they enjoy weekly chats about the war and politics as well as discussing the art that they are both currently working on. John and George’s story is one of many successful matches made by the CAVS Befriending scheme.

The aim of the scheme is to provide companionship to those who are lonely and isolated in the Castle Point & Rochford districts. Volunteers visit on a weekly basis for a chat and a cup of tea and provide a much needed link to the local community.
