CRUISING ON THE RHINE

The most popular European river cruise, however, is the Rhine, with many vessels starting or finishing at Amsterdam. It should be noted, meanwhile, that the city authorities are concerned at the number of tourists flooding into this immeasurably attractive city, and it is likely that controls will be introduced, just as Venice is doing. When I was at a recent CLIA (Cruise Lines International Association) conference in Amsterdam, there was a flotilla of river cruise boats docked across the road and nearby. Apparently that will change, with vessels likely having to embark and disembark passengers some way up river. From Amsterdam you can cruise down the Rhine, the Main, the Danube, and in some cases go all the way into the Black Sea. I had a good experience with 15 days to Budapest, more than enough considering what one sees en route. At Vienna, for example, I could have stayed a week, but Budapest was the next stop and this jewel is not to be missed.

Cruising is popular in Vietnam
