Now is an exciting time for Wrexham and its’ neighbouring counties, as interest in the area – and investment – continues to increase. As part of ‘North East Wales – Altogether Brilliant’ tourism catchment, the ‘This is Wrexham’ tourism partnership has successfully secured £64,000 of new funding, which will be used to support local hospitality businesses in Wrexham. ‘This is Wrexham’ is a partnership run by tourism businesses in Wrexham county that aims to strengthen the visitor experience.

It is chaired by Sam Regan from the Lemon Tree hotel and restaurant.

WREXHAM COUNCIL IS ALSO SUPPORTING THE PARTNERSHIP BY OFFERING A WIDE RANGE OF TOURISM PROJECTS, via its new ‘Placemaking’ scheme. Over the summer, the first tourism brochure for several years is launching, as well as a new online Ambassador Scheme, which will help staff within the industry understand more about the local area – so they can give a more informed level of information to visitors.

The Ambassador Scheme will also be available to the wider business community, who are keen to help promote the area. It reflects similar schemes that have already successfully launched, or are due to launch, in neighbouring counties.

Strengthening the collective offering

The most recent membership window to join ‘This is Wrexham’ closed at the end of May 2023, and businesses that signed up for the coming year will benefit from a wide range of marketing support. In addition, there will be new promotional films and work with ‘Visit Wales’, to promote Wrexham to overseas visitors who are planning a future trip.

Said Sam: “We’re still facing huge challenges in the hospitality industry through ever-increasing overheads, staffing shortages and stiff competition for business, as we go through the cost-of-living crisis.

“Therefore, re-engaging local tourism operators via the partnership scheme ahead of the summer season and offering the additional support that the funding allows us to do, will only help us achieve more cross-promotion and strengthen our collective offer, as we all shout about why Wrexham is a must-visit destination!”

Shining a spotlight on Wrexham Tourism Manager at Wrexham Council, Joe Bickerton, firmly believes that the continued joint-working with the tourism partnership is key to helping to maximise the experience that visitors receive: “The tourism and hospitality businesses in Wrexham are incredibly passionate about providing a great welcome. Working with local producers to support the economy and the new projects that we have in place for 2023 should really help shine the spotlight on both Wrexham and these businesses further.”
