from Cambridge and further afield. You might even catch Ezio himself playing there as a warm-up for his band’s traditional pre-Christmas gig at The Junction!

PETERBOROUGH FOLK FESTIVAL Sick On The Bus

MET LOUNGE The Met Lounge is yet again the venue for another album launch on Friday November 20, when local Screamo band We Are Fiction take to the stage. This is going to be quite an album launch and is being covered by Kerrang and Metal Hammer magazines, among others. Previews and the ability to pre-order can be accessed via their website. Later in the month, the Campaign for Real Punk Rock, or CRPR for short, is joining forces with the Club With No Name which has resurfaced for a special gig at The Met Lounge, Bridge Street, Peterborough on Friday November 27. It’s a special one-off show featuring one of the UK punk scenes most notorious live acts: Sick On The Bus. Imagine Motorhead in a fist-fight with The Sex Pistols and you should be able to imagine what to expect! With four albums and numerous US tours under their belts SOTB will be supported by local punk legends The Destructors. Tickets are on sale from the venue at just £5 each. www.metlounge.org.uk www.myspace.com/wearefictionmusic

It’s happening! With a lot of effort from ESP’s very own Mike ‘da hat’ Harris, Peterborough once again has its very own folk festival on Saturday November 14 and Sunday November 15 at Goodbarn’s Yard, St Johns Street, Peterborough. With over 30 acts over the weekend, it promises to be a stonker! There are certainly too many acts to mention, but as well as local legends such as Irene Rae, James Chadwick and Heather McVey, there’ll be acts from as far afield as Brighton, Sheffield and Warrington. From 2pm until 11pm each day, entry is totally free all weekend, so go and check it out!

ARUSHA ACCORD IN THE BORO Leading a UK tour of musical mayhem, The Arusha Accord are playing at The Park, Park Road, Peterborough on Sunday November 15. Considered one of the UK’s finest prog-metal bands, their post-hardcore style is a unique contrast of core melodies, clear vocals and agonizing yelps… what more can I say! They’ll be joined by Canadian tech-metal wizards A Textbook Tragedy and UK band Ghosts On Pegasus Bridge. www.thepark4music.com

THE REPLICAS DANCING WITH TEARS IN MY EYES Describing themselves on the website as ‘foot-stomping, ska-chasing, danceshaping’, our good friends, The Replicas, have got a busy schedule in the run up to Christmas (I’ll be doing a run-down of what’s happing on the music scene over Christmas in next month’s issue). However, if you want to catch them in November, get yourself to the Deeping Stage, Market Place, Deeping, on Saturday November 21. Dancing and singing along is compulsory, but not difficult with the best of the 60s, Mod, punk, new wave, ska and soul being played. Entry’s free of charge.

No, it’s not due to tight underwear… it’s the title of a song by 80s pop band, Ultravox, whose lead singer, Midge Ure, will be performing at The Cresset on Thursday November 26. As well as hits with Ultravox, including the classic Vienna, Midge Ure has also notched up hits as a solo artist and is credited with writing Band Aid’s, Do They Know It’s Christmas. Tickets are available from The Cresset box office on 01733 265705, or online at

EZIO TURNS PROMOTER Former Peterborough guy and front man in one of Cambridge’s most enduringly successful bands is currently finding out what life is like on the other side of the music business, by promoting a series of forthcoming gigs in the city. Ezio Lunedei, who was brought up in Peterborough but has lived in Cambridge for some years now, is better known as songwriter, guitarist and vocalist in his band Ezio. He’s now welcoming some of the nation’s bestloved musicians to the intimate stage at The Boathouse in Cambridge for a series of acoustic gigs during November. The autumn line-up in the 100 capacity upstairs venue on Mitcham’s Corner includes solo appearances from former Sex Pistol bassist Glen Matlock (Sunday November 8); another Cambridge songwriting legend in the form of Boo Hewerdine (Wednesday November 11); folk-rock genius Martin Stephenson (of Daintees fame – Thursday November 26); and Chris Difford – in a previous life one of the mainstays of Brit legends Squeeze (Friday November 27 and Saturday November 28). Ezio told ESP – “I decided to promote a few gigs just for the fun of it, and the inspiration it’ll provide. It’s also a chance to put on the sort of gigs that I’d like to see myself.” Ezio is also planning a series of monthly Songwriter Nights at The Boathouse, which will act as a showcase for some of the best artists

WINTER BLUES There is some great blues happening at the Stamford Arts Centre on Saturday November 7, when the legendary Woody Mann will be giving out some awe-inspiring guitar licks in a concert that will definitely take your breath away. Tickets are £12 from the box office. Continuing with the blues theme, if you prefer a pub venue then check out Dr A’s Blues Consortium, who’ll be playing at The Halcyon, Atherstone Avenue, Peterborough on Saturday November 14. Best of all, why not do both? www.stamfordartscentre.com

GOING GLOBAL Peterborough bhangra-rock fusion band, Kissmet, have stepped up their game by attending the World Music Conference in Copenhagen recently and are hoping to win even more global bookings on the world music scene. If you’ve got a valid passport and a few quid, you can see them in Goa on New Year’s Eve, or wait a few months before catching them in Florida, Mexico City, Bogota or in the Caribbean. Manager and performer, Ron Singh, said – “It’s great that we’re being more recognised on the world music scene across the globe, although we will continue to play local charity events as a way of saying a big thank you to the people of Peterborough who’ve supported us for so long.” To keep posted on events, check the Kissmet website. www.kissmet.co.uk
