PM: How long have you been teaching Zumba classes at Pembroke Falls?

DB: I’ve been teaching Zumba in Pembroke Falls for 13 years.

PM: At what age did you get interested in dancing and what teachers or schools did study and learn from?

DB: I was born and raised in Puerto Rico, which led me to have a passion for Caribbean dance. As a child I took jazz classes in a dance academy in my hometown. I was involved in my school’s dance team. In addition to this, I participated in my high school’s cheerleading squad. Dancing has played a huge role in my life culturally, physically, and emotionally.

PM: What do you enjoy most about the classes?

DB: My favorite part about my class is seeing everyone leave with a smile on their face. One of the greatest aspects of Zumba dancing is that you don’t realize how much you are actually exercising. Zumba’s motto is actually “ditch the workout, join the party”. You are able to dance, enjoy the music, and watch your body change throughout the classes. My clients are able to lose weight, get toned, make new friends, and feel more conident about themselves.

PM: Are there other styles of dances you teach or enjoy?

DB: I love every style of dance. In my classes I teach a variety of dance styles including: salsa, merengue, reggaeton, samba, and soca.

PM: You must be very busy teaching 3 classes per week, plus you have a children, correct?

DB: I love to keep myself busy. Along with teaching Zumba classes I’m a full-time realtor. My family consists of two wonderful children, my husband, and my dog Rocco. My eldest child is in college and my youngest child is a senior in High School. My family is my greatest motivation to work hard and to be a better person every day.

PM: Do you have any other hobbies or interest?

DB: Beyond Zumba, I enjoy home décor, lipping properties, playing volleyball, and spending time with my family and friends.
