BOARD BITES Parking Rules and Regulations:

The Safety Committee meeting met regarding the review of this issue and a solution that would work for the community.

The committee agreed that the rules and regulations require a simplified version of the do’s and don’ts for parking. Members were tasked to draft the first version of this document. A recommendation was made to have residents sign a disclosure form regarding the rules and regulations of the Association. Management also added that this could be added to the guest access system on the PF website as a check box acknowledgement when managing their guest profile. These action items are currently in the works and up for discussion.

George Armstrong Custer (December 5, 1839 – June 25, 1876) was a United States Army officer and cavalry commander in the American Civil War and the American Indian Wars. Custer was admitted to West Point in 1857, where he graduated last in his class in 1861. With the outbreak of the Civil War, Custer was called to serve with the Union Army. Custer developed a strong reputation during the Civil War. He participated in the First Battle of Bull Run, and the Battle of Gettysburg. He was wounded in the Battle of Culpeper Court House in Virginia on September 13, 1863. After the Civil War, Custer was appointed a lieutenant colonel in the 7th Cavalry Regiment in July 1866. He was dispatched to the west in 1867 to fight in the American Indian Wars. On June 25, 1876, while leading the 7th Cavalry Regiment at the Battle of the Little Bighorn in Montana Territory against a coalition of Native American tribes, he and all of his detachment—which included two of his brothers—were killed. The battle is popularly known in American history as "Custer's Last Stand." He is in the lower right of the colorized photo with the dog.

How to maintain your mailbox? It is recommended that the mailbox is cleaned on a regular basis. When contaminants are allowed to build-up and remain on the powder coat paint finish it can cause permanent discoloration. To clean bird dropping, dog urine & tree sap we recommend using a mild dish detergent & water. You can also apply a clear spray automobile wax to maintain the luster of the mailbox. PLEASE note that sprinklers should be redirected to avoid hard water stains. Us a rust inhibitor in your sprinker system to avoid orange stains. The Schott Communities in Pembroke Pines

By Andrea Moscoso Beyond the busyness of Flamingo road, lies a quiet and hidden treasure that is generating growth, connection and opportunity for a very special population. For the last 30 years, the Schott Communities and Enrichment Center in Pembroke Pines have created a community where adults with a wide array physical and/or intellectual challenges are empowered to grow and expand their potential through their programs and offerings. Most recently, on May 3rd, 2018, participants and residents of the Schott Communities partook in the fun of the annual Fashion Show “Models of Inspiration, A Sparkling Evening to Shine”. The sold-out event featured program participants and residents as models and raised $40,000 for the center. Tickets were sold at $85 per person and also featured raffles and donations by many local organization and businesses. “There was not a dry eye in the place,” said Jerry Cohen, the Schott Communities’ Director of Annual Funds and Stewardship of the event. Participants had the opportunity to model fashion trends provided by Saks Fifth Avenue and had their hair and make up done for the show. The event attendees got to enjoy a fabulous and very special show and dinner. The nnual &ashion ^how is only one of the many activities and programs that Schott Communities offer. Throughout the year, participants partake in enrichment programs from arts and crafts to adult day training. The Community also features a Women’s residence as well as an apartment complex created as housing for persons with disabilities. As per the center’s brochure, the “Schott Philosophy is rooted in the belief that a person’s worth lies not in their productivity, but in his or her ability to offer and receive love.” The programs available are designed to encourage and challenge participants to grow in selfacceptance and independence. “Our programs integrate: personal growth and development; educational and artistic experiences; socialization; religious formation and residential care” the publication reads. And for Jerry Cohen, this is a mission of heart. “You get such a richness in what we do here: Seeing them smile and being connected, seeing the growth and the changes. Seeing them come out of their shells. It’s so meaningful,” Cohen said.

The Schott Communities was founded as a private, non-profit organization in 1986. It’s mission statement reads: Schott Communities, founded with the belief that every person has the right to be treated with dignity and care, is dedicated to providing life-enriching programs, services and residences to meet the multiple needs of persons who are deaf or disabled.” For Cohen the purpose is clear. “It is a worthwhile cause,” he says. “Participants have a rougher road than we do. If we can make it easier for them in any kind of way, it is all worth it.”

DID YOU KNOW Most American movie villains have British accents because we associate them with having high intellect and low morals.

German chocolate cake is named after a guy named Sam German, not the country.

Before the invention of color TV, 75% of people said they dreamed in black and white. Today, only 12% do. Popcorn wasn't always a beloved movie snack — in fact, prior to the Great Depression, movie theaters hated popcorn.

The creature that kills the most people every year isn't snakes, sharks, or even other humans — it's the mosquito. "What in tarnation?" is literally just another way of saying, "What the hell?"

There are actually more public libraries in the US than McDonald's.

The last letter added to the English alphabet wasn't Z — it was the letter J.

People wore fake moles (or "beauty patches") made of velvet, silk, or mouse skin in the 18th century as a fashion statement.

There are trees that can grow more than one kind of fruit, and they're called fruit salad trees.

Iceland has an elf whisperer who inspects construction sites before anything is built to make sure no elves are hanging around.

T-shirts were originally marketed to unmarried men who didn't know how to sew buttons back on collared shirts by themselves. Ancient Greeks came up with the idea of Cyclops after they found a fossil of a mammoth, and had no idea what it was.

Lego is the largest tile manufacturer in the world. A "butt load" is a real measurement of weight. It is an English measure of capacity of a heavy cart (a butt), containing 48 bushels, and equivalent to 384 gallons.

Cows have "best friends" and get stressed when separated. Ketchup was sold as medicine in the 1830s. Miami is the only major US city founded by a woman.

TECH STUFF THE ULTRASONIC JACUZZI DESIGNED TO SUPERCLEAN YOUR GLASSES AND MORE

You never know how dirty your spectacles are until someone tells you. They gather fingerprints, dust, scratches galore and I literally need to be told to wipe them clean… and then I use the base of my shirt to wipe them, adding to the scratches because you’re supposed to use microfiber and not just any regular cloth So while some may say the Smartclean Vision.5 seems a little excessive, I say it’s a blessing. Fill it up with regular water (you could even use a drop of liquid soap too), switch it on, and leave your spectacles inside while the Vision.5 uses ultrasonic vibrations to agitate the water, allowing it to gently but efficiently clean any dirt, dust, grime, oil, smudges you may have on your spectacles. Probably a dozen times more effective than wiping your spectacles with a cloth, the Vision.5 cleanses every nook and cranny of your spectacles (even the dirt that accumulates around the nose-pad) and leaves them looking brand new in just five minutes. The size of a power bank, and available in a rather pleasant variety of colors, the Vision.5 can even be carried around with you, and you may just want to carry a microfiber cloth to wipe the water off your shiny, spotless spectacles. And no, we know what you’re thinking but it’s best if you don’t use these for your contact lenses… or murder weapons.

LANDLINE PHONE

I never thought I’d say this but… I think I want a landline! I have the Dreyfuss phone to thank for this newfound appreciation. This retrofuturistic phone concept marries the iconic form of the classic telephone with a minimalistic, modern form and material combination.

Specifically, the design is a nod to Henry Dreyfuss, a legendary 20th Century industrial designer. The 1937 Bell 302 telephone happens to be one of his most famous work and serves as an inspiration for this project. Like the classic, the Dreyfuss phone sports a number dial at the center, however, it’s actually a touchscreen with a digital display. While it has a similar footprint to the classic form, the open body allows for additional storage behind it and hides any wiring quite nicely.

THE SCREEN PROTECTOR THAT ADDS 2 EXTRA BUTTONS TO YOUR IPHONE

One of the biggest differences between the iOS and the Android/Windows Phone experience is its layout of elements. While the Android experience gives you three core controls at the bottom (back, home, task manager), the iOS experience doesn’t.

That’s where Nombiss does a bit of magic with its tempered glass screen protector. Built with invisible circuitry, the Intelli+ screen protector turns the areas to the left and right side of your iPhone home button into touch-sensitive zones, letting you tap places at the top corners of your iPhone screen by simply touching the base of the phone. The Intelli+ does promise to put less strain on your thumb, and work your phone without having to access those hard-to-reach corners. It also gives your phone’s screen complete protection letting it sit under a layer of tempered glass (while absolutely keeping its capacitive circuitry invisible). The only disadvantage? It doesn’t work while your phone is in landscape mode.
