WHAT'S HAPPENING IN & AROUND TOWN There’s something in the air this fortnight! And let’s be real—it’s probably grain dust. With harvest operations well underway, farming families, a stack of local businesses and all of their employees are swept up in the biggest operation on our community calendar. It’s an exciting, productive time of year but, of course, the tradeoff is it’s exhausting and our regional arterial roads have a tendency to get absolutely whacked. Given we all want to get through the season safely, it’s worth mentioning how important it is to keep cool on the roads and cooperate with other drivers, as we all navigate a minefield of semitrailers, caravans and the emotional torture that is the final 50kms on your way into Esperance. PHOTOGRAPHY CREDIT: CHUMANI STEWART There’s history in the making this weekend, in the event of Esperance’s very first Pride event—the Esperance Pride Halloween Ball. We know you all love a bit of last-minute rush when it comes to ticket sales, but you may want to consider getting your hands on these $20 bad boys before they sell out. Head to the Cannery website for more information. This week also sees a vibrant array of options for the art-lovers of Esperance. The latest exhibition of local superstar Tammy Andrews’ work Treasure Islands opens at Baxter and Maree Gallery on Monday and will run for two weeks. The Cannery Arts Centre has also launched its latest Art Lab workshops—you can read about our top picks of the series on our website: www.esperancetide.com If you’re more musically-inclined, KyzaPresents has got another treat in store for you next weekend. Local treasure musical acts Grand Casual and Firehorse are teaming up for a lovely starry evening in the Cannery Arts Centre courtyard next Saturday. You can head to page 9 for more information, including where to get your tickets. Have fun, stay safe and happy reading, team!
