Early Childhood Philosophy

Early Childhood Philosophy At Esperance Primary School, we believe that Early Childhood Education builds a strong foundation for life-long learning. Every child deserves a safe and inclusive environment to become confident and independent learners. We are committed to supporting the whole child with a focus on their social and emotional wellbeing.

We have a balanced approach to teaching and learning, using a mix of intentional, guided and child-centered experiences and explicit teaching.

We provide opportunities for children to engage with people and their environment through play-based learning. Play allows children to develop social skills, problem solve, build new understanding, explore, create, take risks, and overcome challenges in a safe, supportive environment.

We create engaging and responsive educational programs using the Western Australian Curriculum and Kindergarten Curriculum Guidelines. In our ECE classrooms the National Quality Standards and Early Years Learning Framework is reflected in our daily teaching practices, from Kindergarten to Year Two. Early intervention is an integral part of our school, to support all children to achieve their full potential.

We create welcoming environments that support learning inside and outside the classroom. Our spaces are engaging, flexible and responsive to the interests and abilities of each child. Our learning environments enable and encourage children to take safe risks. In ECE we model respect for the environment to our children daily.

We value collaboration with all families and the community to build purposeful and trusting relationships. We understand that every child comes to school with their own early life experiences, interests, and abilities. At Esperance Primary School every child is supported and empowered to become respectful, responsible, and resilient members of the community.
